Hot or Not - Suhr - Mike Landau

Since we were talking about "Burning Water" and "Vomit burst" James Tyler guitars that Mike Landau has been associated with in the past I figure I would post his Suhr, which isn't a signature model. Looks strangely familiar :embarrassed:

What is with the truss rod adjustment in the base of the neck. The cut out in the pickguard looks like it could be adjusted without removing the neck. Either way why not just put in the headstock were it belongs?

probably like Fender to make you have a qualified tech do the service. I've been setting up all of my own instruments for a while but I'm sending my Suhr Classic back to them for a Plek and some other repair work...they do such a good job and the guitars come back so accurate that I won't mess with either Suhr in that way. And since the guitar is being used to generate enough revenue to buy a new one every 6-8 weeks I'm going to spend the cash to have it maintained like that. :)

I would send it back as well, but you would think a typical Suhr customer has enough experience to know whether or not they have the ability to adjust it themselves.

not really. you spend the same as you would on a Suhr as you would for a Fender custom shop guitar, PRS or a Les Paul standard. $2200-$2600. Lots of blues lawyers own those guitars and don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

Played one, really liked it, next time I really want a H/S/S type guitar, it's on my shortlist.

I love Strats and Teles, and I build them because they're easy to sell. But I've never understood why Suhr and Hahn continue to build guitars that look identical to Strats and Teles. Couldn't they at least change the body and pickguard enough so that it wasn't so obviously a Fender copy and maybe become their own signature design?

There's a huge market for the upscale/booteek strats and teles that look like they could have been made by Fender...they sell so it's easy to see why so many builders just go after that market.
