Help me dmn23, you're my only hope

I really like that. I'd hit it of the shipping and import taxes made it possible.

Everybody should have a Guild.
Or two.

I find it difficult to imagine there's a meaningful difference in quality between the Corona and Westerly instruments. I suspect it's just an issue of bragging rights ("Oh? Well, mine was made at the real Guild factory...").

I remember one of those at a mom n' pop guitar store in Sumter, SC when I was stationed there at Shaw AFB. They kept it locked in a glass case, and were one of those stores that wouldn't allow you to just pick up a guitar and play it, so I never bothered shopping there for strings.

Anyways, I knew a guy in the Air Force that also played and was looking to buy a new guitar. I guess he went down there to check that guitar out with the intention of buying it if he liked it, and they wouldn't let him play it before-hand  So the guy drove to Columbia, SC to this smallish but really great shop that was on the west side, and bought, if I remember rightly, a top of the line Ibanez JEM.

The very first time I set foot in that mom n' pop store, in 1988, they had that Guild. When I drove past the store for the last time, as I was in the middle of outprocessing getting to leave the Air Force in 1994, they still had that Guild (you could see the glass case it was in thru the big front window the store had). 6 years, and nobody had bought the thing.

From what Ive read in the past the neck profile was changed when production moved to Corona. I’ve played the Westerly built ones and know I like that neck. I haven’t played the Corona built models so I cant comment on those. If I were buying one sight unseen, I know which one Id want and it’s for that reason.

Both of mine are Westerly Guilds. The distinguishing features of the Blues 90 are P90s, dot inlays instead of blocks, no neck binding, and a much fatter neck than what was standard on the Bluesbird at the time. My Starfire probably has the same carve as the Bluesbirds from the same era but I don't know for sure. I haven't played a Corona Bluesbird so I can't comment on those.
