Question: HEAT CHECK - Would I like to post a thread to gauge the interest in possibly maybe having a "Smurfstock" get-together in Austin in May (or September)?

Like I said on the other one, if you can physically get out and do this, do it. Don't sit back and say boy, I wish I had.

I will be 100% honest.... the first Pragestock I attended... I still remembered a couple tunes from when I played in high school and college, but mostly seat of pants winging it or just watching other people play. But man I was I amped up and inspired to play more after that.

Later years I had worked up a handful of tunes... but I wasn't playing in bands yet. The thing is... I don't remember who played which songs and don't care. The best part was meeting all the people from the board and just having FUN.

Since then, I've hung with people at Namm, or quick meet ups with people at NAMM, lunch with Jeremy (RIP), and even had Jbird come to one of my pub shows. Again... there's nothing to worry about, feel judged about, or whatever. It's talking gear, sometimes checking out gear you've never played or seen, and ultimately adding new (3) dimensions to the fun we have here virtually.

The MWGL Community as a whole is the most important part!!... Some only have the time/resources/opportunity for a local one, or one that aligns with another trip. My summers are usually crazy... but if you plan one that doesn't fall on one of my family member's birthdays, or on a Notre Dame home game, I will do my best to see if I can travel to yours.

Ideally... we do a Midwest one this spring... You do one in the Fall... maybe a California one gets planned around NAMM time next year.... East coast next Summer.... and we make this a thriving musical community... not just old farts sharing funny memes.

You really don't understand why I'd be annoyed that you came into my thread where I was proposing an event at my place in Austin in the spring and proposed your event around the same time frame before this one had even had time to germinate, and then started your own thread with a weekend in April already set? We couldn't at least have coordinated something? Sure some people can only do local events, but some might want to go to both - but would be unlikely to do so if they are only weeks apart. So now mine is automatically in the fall I guess?

I'm not saying that others shouldn't be able to host events or anything, the more the merrier. I'm really not trying to be selfish with this or anything. But if you don't understand why the way you did this was off-putting and rude then there's no use trying to explain it.

I was definitely egging @baimun on here--there's no way I would be able to make Austin, and Indiana is super easy for me, so it didn't occur to me that there would be any overlap/competition.

I knew I would regret posting my last post as soon as I sent it, and I'm sorry too. I know you didn't have any ill intent. I felt pretty deflated because I'll also admit that your setup for an event like this looks way better than mine, and it kind of felt like "you could go to his event orrrrr you could come to my way cooler one".

But my last post wasn't necessary and I apologize. I realize you just got excited and it wasn't your intent to try and one-up me, and I took it too personally. April in your neck of the woods does sound like a good plan and i'd try to make it out there for sure, and we can still do another Austin one in the future.

Nah nah nah.... because of the Easter weekend I picked.... It's much more likely that I'd be sitting in the doorway for 6 hours waiting for someone to show up... and a couple local buds show up and say "So where are all these imaginary people that you invited?... You've been talking to bots online again haven't you?"

I left this forum and lost a huge chunk of time here, then came back. I know Greg still posts here once in a blue moon. Yet, I can’t help but notice that Mrs P’s posts, and existence on this forum, seem to be mostly wiped clean.

Maybe, this isn’t the time or place to ask, but what happened to Mrs P? Alien abduction? Divorce? Untimely death?

I never had the chance to go to a Wein gathering in the past. I followed on-line with envy. Now all I have on my calendar are vacations and doctors appointments.

I would plan to attend both and make them part of larger trips. I will able to host an event soon. I will wait my turn in the Weinfest tour plans. I'm in the St Louis area. None more central.

I've been to Houston in July. I didn't stop sweating from the second the plane landed. Maybe a fall/winter Texas swing is best. Could you maybe schedule with a good Austin musicfest. I assume they have more than the big one.

I think the internet has just changed a lot. When I first got into Harmony Central and then MWGL, socializing on the internet was mostly about visiting disparate forums. Now that Reddit, FB, Discord, Youtube, etc users are churning out so much interaction, I would bet that there's just a lot more competition out there. I've disappeared from here for years at a time, but I'm back now, super excited about these get-togethers. I haven't seen any of you degenerates for too long.

Also... for those Chicagoans who can't or don't drive... the South Shore Train leaves from Millennium Station.

I usually drive to Gary to catch the South Shore. Parking is never an issue, the station is so empty you can hop the turnstiles and you can wear a mask everywhere without people giving you funny looks.

I should book a small stand up tour of NW Indiana. I would get lots of laughs in the comedy clubs in Hammond, Whiting and Hobart.

I was active on HC before moving to this forum and then I basically disappeared for several years as part of a GAS recovery plan. I've come back more recently because I'm not as often moved by impulse buys and this is a good place. Haven't met any forumites in real life but one of these days you never know...
