Question: HEAT CHECK - Would I like to post a thread to gauge the interest in possibly maybe having a "Smurfstock" get-together in Austin in May (or September)?

Sooo @micwalt put the idea in my head in the music room thread... now that I am renting a house and have some space and a music room set up, any interest in having a get-together here in Austin in September a la the Barnstock events we used to do? I figure that May is the last month that it (usually) isn't balls-hot outside, but if that's too short of notice we could aim for September instead. I have a guest bedroom and a comfy couch so I could put up a couple folks here.

I'm picturing a Fri - Sun kind of thing, maybe show up Thursday evening / Friday morning and hang out, jam, take a trip to a few Austin music stores on Saturday, maybe have some kinda cookout or Texas barbecue excursion Saturday night, and then wrap things up on Sunday morning.

Nothing too crazy, just a nice meetup / hang. It's been a while since we've had one. Bring whatever gear you want, or ofc you're all welcome to use anything of mine.

It won't hurt my feelings (too much) if there's no real interest / ability for folks to come out, but I think it'd be fun to see everyone...

Always loved the idea of Pragestock or similar and Mrs Jbj wouldn't care - I'm missing her 40th birthday to visit The Somme battlefields and she's not bothered

Unfortunately whilst I get tonnes of holidays, the council tell me exactly when I can take them so no can do.

It'as something I'd love to participate in. September is hard because its the beginning of the school year. May is almost as hard this year because its the end of the school year and its so close. I would definitely try for the may one if it happened though

I could host a MidWest-fest in our Shop as far as beer, gear, and making noise goes... but I just don't have the room to host peeps at my house. I would have to point people to nearby Holiday Inn express unless you were sleeping in the shop parking lot. :helper:

That said... there is also a bar that is walking distance from the shop that is pretty fun and is super cheap... like burger, fries, and 3 beers might set you back $20. :baimun:

I honestly think you missed your calling in life. By now you should be the Senior Director of Tourism for the Hoosier State. Your passion is admirable.

I spent a lot of time in Austin from the mid 90-s thru the early 2010s. Not the ultra weird 1970’s-1980’s heyday but still a good time to be there.

My memories of Austin are filled with tons of great food, amazing music, cool people, culture and a laid back artistic vibe in the liberal capitol of a red state.

I’ve also spent a lot (too much) of time in Indiana and for some reason I don’t have fond memories like that.:):):)

There's no way I could get to Texas in that time game (unless I win the Kerrville songwriting contest and the dates line up), but I always loved reading the threads/seeing the pics from the get togethers in the past.

Well… I wish I was about 5 - 10 miles north, in Michigan, near a vineyard. :helper:

Dang, dude. I'm just a 2.5 hour drive away, and I haven't been to ATX for too long. I could probably make it work. Or I could at least come down for a hang/jam on another occasion if that doesn't work out. If you're looking at Sept, please just avoid Sept 11 weekend.

I’d be interested, but probably couldn’t make TX as my schedule is dumb and I already travel too much. If @baimun keeps us posted on Indiana, I can probably take the time to drive Hump over there so we can throw eggs at you.

Let me check about when my wife is going to Florida for spring break.... I think it would be easier than Friday afternoon saying "See ya Sunday!!" :helper:
