Father's Day this year coincides with my daughter turning 15 1/2 and being eligible for her driving permit.
The last few evenings I took her to a stretch of dirt road so she could learn the basics.

been doing the same. Although I started a few years ago… sort of. Had a manual and told me daughter she could drive if she could start it. I knew she didn’t know to press the clutch. Laughs. Fast forward a year or so later tell her the same thing in a different truck. It starts. She’s shocked. That one is go. That one is stop. She slammed on the gas and then slammed on the breaks. Also funny. Last few months she’s been practicing in the truck out in the country and in step moms crv in parking lots. Good times

One of our kids is going off on a camping trip tomorrow morning at 10:embarrassed:0am, so only one child to deal with for a while. It’s his first real camping experience (tents, not cabins) so he’s going to learn about catholes. I’ll take my daughter to see Lightyear, although it will be weird to hear Chris Evan’s voice coming out of Buzz Lightyear.

As for my dad, I had Amazon send him a copy of Junji Ito’s book Uzumaki. It’s a weird graphic novel about a small Japanese town taken over by evil spirals. I send everybody in my family weird books for gifts now, even my 85 year old grandmother. Nobody really needs lame t-shirts or flowers.

My girls are 18 and 17, I just went through that. Oldest was chill and cautious. Every time I got in with my youngest, my life flashed before my eyes.

Happy Father’s Day all.

It kinda started yesterday for me.
My youngest came over after work and brought a six pack of cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, and bacon butter tarts - intending them to be for the weekend. It was decided that they would go stale by then. So, we split them all except the bacon butter tarts.

Plans for tomorrow include going to rib fest with the kids and grandkids. It’s a bit up in the air because we want to eat kind of at normal dinner time, but Vinyl Flux (our friends’ band) doesn’t go on until 9PM. Hanging around just to see the band seems like a strange thing as this will be our first real outing since things locked down.
It’s all outdoors. So, there is a reduced risk, but it’s not zero.
At some point, I need to go pick up a guitar with a broken neck that I won at auction. For 45 bucks, it will be a good learning platform for the repair or it will give up the rest of its parts for other projects. I might try to get the New Yorker running early in the day and use it to drive out to get the guitar.

If all that happens as planned, then Sunday will be quiet time.

Our grandson got his learner’s permit a while back and finally convinced Mrs DCF to let him drive her car.
He’s had a couple of “learning moments” with the HEMI and being used to driving a mini van with a 3.3l V6.
He actually got the tires loose for a quick second. Unintentionally. He recovered very nicely.
Then he got a good talking-to about how much tires cost.

He’s perfectly fine driving Grandma’s car.

Wife surprised me with a couple of kayaks. Had a gig tonight on Bayou Sara. Kid rode up with me and we paddled around for a bit for a bit before hand.

My buddy and I decided to both play electric guitars. His kids were there for the start. I asked them which guitar I should play. When I gave them the 2 options, his son was quick to say telecaster. There is hope for the future.

My daughter caught a ride back with them. When I picked her up and asked what they did… just kind of played guitar and stuff. Apparently, they had a 15 minute version of Zombies. Good times.

Is it still that cold in Canada?
It was the last couple of days.
We did have the stupid heat wave for a day, maybe a day and a half, and then the storm came through and the temperature and humidity dropped.

but for the guitar, I just had other shit to do.

what is that thing behind the steering wheel ? and how will you know if you have a low tire.....how do you get where you are going without a GPS display
Instrument cluster with the sweeping speedometer. I look at the tires before I get in.
If you don’t care where you’re going, you can’t get lost, but I do have an old school GPS unit that suction cups to the window. I use that mainly for ETA calculations on longer trips or to scope out potential ‘adventure roads’ while out cruising. ‘Adventure roads’ are roads we haven’t been down before and the only criteria is that need to lead somewhere that doesn’t require back tracking along the same road and the surface has to be decent enough to be an enjoyable ride.

That's a really unusual speedometer. What car is that?
looks like one of those classic early 70s american huge ass boat car style horizontal speedometers, like a buick or chrysler.

I can feel the lines and dots the rear vinyl bench seats are cooking onto my short-shorted legs in the summers of my childhood
