Guitar stuff you didn't understand back when...

The first POS bass I had I actually thought the saddle (one big bent piece of corrugated steel) looked cooler tightened the whole way back as far as the springs allowed. Therefore my bass was constantly flat the higher up you played. I would bend the strings into pitch constantly. My guitarist used to tell at me to quit bending because he couldn't stand seeing it. And I never noticed I was doing it until he said so.

So yes, add intonation to the list.

That Keith riffs can't be made to sound right in standard tuning, no matter how much time is wasted trying to find a way.

Last night I broke down, tuned to open G, and learned the "right" way to play the opening bars to Casino Boogie. It sounded so good I wanted to smash something.

That was one of the first things I did when I got a Tele. Open G and then play Brown Sugar or any other late 60's, early 70's Stones I could think of. Depending on the key, just move a capo around. Took me a while to figure out that Honky Tonk Women was in G but capoed on the first fret. And then it just sounded great.
