Great TV jam: BBC production - Sherlock

Anyone else watched this? It was run on the PBS 'Mystery' slots last fall and the three episodes made it to Netflix. I missed the original runs (didn't hear a thing about them actually) but watched the first one on Netflix this weekend. It is a modern reboot of Sherlock Holmes set in modern day London. Each episode is about 1 1/2 hours long. The first one was pretty dang good. Borderline awesome actually. I am a little bit of a Sherlock Holmes nut and really did not expect theses to do the name justice - it did. Highly recommended if you like murder/mystery type shows and if you like Holmes you simply MUST watch.

I absolutely loved it. I can't wait for more episodes. All of the modernized twists are very clever and fitting to the characters and stories.

You know whats really weird? Im watching the second episode right now. The Chinese smuggling one. Wow.

My second time through, they are great. There was supposed to be more episodes this year, but its been pushed back to 2012.

BTW, another really great (in my opinion) BBC show right now is Luther. You should check it out if you get a chance.

I loved it, really looking forward to the second series. And, the second series of "Luther" is the best thing I've seen on TV this year I think. :thu:

I watched the first disc of Sherlock and thought it was pretty good. Prages and I sat down and watched all of the Luther Series 1 discs from beginning to End. We thought they were great. I can't wait for the Series 2 Discs to come out.

Does it have all the obnoxious "dream-like" jump-cut flashbacks like the more recent seasons of Poirot? God those are annoying.

I have not watched any Poirot, so I don't really know what you mean by the dream like flashbacks, but Sherlock is pretty gritty, and I don't remember any flashbacks being very dream like or distracting. There are of course some flashbacks, but they are more just to show you what you may have missed and not really all that distracting.

A lot of the recent BBC stuff I've seen (Dr. Who, Being Human, etc.) is full of out-of-focus flashbacks run through various color filters and/or optical distortion effects. It's become a terrible cliche. To be fair, the very American CSI franchise is the worst offender in that department.

Love me some Holmes. I'm a bit of a Doyle scholar.
Honestly, most of the updates hve left me cold. The Downey flick was OK but not great.
I'll check this out, though.
