Got to brag on my lady for a minute

Kick Henry Jackassowski
She had her masters percussion recital tonight and she killed it dead. They typical expect 20 folks at these things and she had more than all the other grads combined. They had to get more chairs and it was still standing room only.

She did some Earl Brown type stuff which was way fun and some compositions from her major professor as well as a composition from one of the other grads. Being in her 40s, she has been struggling with tendinitis so she couldn’t hit the typical rep. When she was trying to figure out what to do, she got approval to pad the set with some Rhino songs which was really well received by the academics. The head of the studio was really pleased that younger folks in the studio got to see a totally new avenue of what can be done with marimba, vibraphone, etc… it made me super proud because this is what she’s been doing for the past 20 years since she got called up as a National Guard member for hurricane Katrina and had to put this journey on hold.

The university recorded it for their archives. If we get a copy, I’ll see if I can share.

Wow that's cool, I really hope the video is shareable once you have it. When you say rhino songs does that mean you were playing too on those?

Congrats! I’m glad to hear she wasn’t too freaked out from hanging out with internet weirdos to concentrate.

We’ve been together for like 12 years and that was only the second time she agreed to go to NOLA with me. Her Katrina experience was really tough. I was surprised she said yes. Maybe she has a thing for internet weirdos?

Yeah. We were originally going to do just one because we wrote it together. The chorus starts with “we’ve all been run over, though most only figuratively…” which is hilarious to us because she’s been hit by a car twice as a pedestrian.

The major professor has a collection of compositions that when you get real in the weeds on some abstract theory spells flat earth. So he was real into the idea of this one.
