Only in rock and roll/pop culture terms. 37 is decidedly middle aged in terms of real life expectancy/life stage.

For example, Ulysses wasn't even through its initial serialized publication by the time Joyce was 37.

Most of Shakespeare's greatest works happened after he was into his mid-30s.

Nabokov was in his mid 50s when working on Lolita.

The idea that anyone over 26 is old and washed up and destined to drive a minivan full of annoying yuppie spawn through the Costco parking lot for all eternity is simply lazy capitulation to social conditioning and cultural norms.

Hell, Hunter Thompson didn't really even get started building his legend and running his ability to write cogent sentences into the ground until he was in his mid 30s. I'm pretty certain he did more Coke and blew up more shit after 37 than before.
