I never really got too much into her or 10,000 maniacs other than the radio hits but what a great voice really, I had forgotten how good it was, just so smooth and soothing and it made my Uber ride home from my sigmoidoscopy so peaceful

In my most successful yet eclectic record store trip of all time I bought 10,000 Maniacs - Our Time in Eden and Pantera - A Vulgar Display of Power. I listened to them both on my way back to DC from PA. Still love both of those albums.

I love her voice and her writing. Very thoughtful lyrics and a soothing delivery.

When I was in college in the 90s, I had an instructor who looked like her.

I met her last year in the lobby of the hotel I was staying in. She was on her way to a show with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. It was a brief encounter, but she seemed very nice. I said "I am sorry I can't make it to your show tonight" and she said "you should blow off work and come anyway".

Oh yeah, saw them in concert at U of MD back then too. Fantastic show, 3 encores, crowd couldn't get enough, last song was Because the Night (this was before they released it on the Unplugged concert).

And Rob Buck is a very good guitarist.

Natalie Merchant has a pleasant voice. She's certainly no Celine Dion. Then again, even Celine is no Dion these days. Stiff person syndrome is no joke.

She had a home near the dealership I used to work at, and I would occasionally see her at the kosher/vegan market in town...she was a bit stand-offish but eventually we got to where we could exchange pleasantries and talk a bit of music...good soul, her...

A sigmoidoscopy?
Are you sure you weren't listening to 'rapped around yer finger' by the Cranberries?

If I'm remembering right, she put out a double album for kids in the last decade that was really good. Children's music is generally pretty cash -grabby, but it seemed pretty genuine and sounded great.
