I think the biggest problem is that the management had no emotional investment or urgency in keeping that place going - they sort of let it twist in the wind, then when everything got critical they bought different forum software of the type that tech support departments at IT firms use to ask and answer questions (not real forum software) and by the time they went back to real forum software all the regulars had left. I pop in once in a while but it's kind of like walking into your friends parents house where they have a room that's kind of like a museum that nobody is allowed to sit on the furniture and there's plastic over everything. Not real comfortable.

Yeah, and like the room where there was a horrific sex murder suicide.
 
I hated seeing the downhill slide of that place but as with everything in life, nothing lasts forever. It used to be a great place for musical dialogue. Now it's a wasteland.
I like it here. It feels like home the way HC used to.

I know this is an old thread, and that this has been said a billion times, but man, I still can't believe how badly they fucked it all up. Just absolutely fucked it up.

If ever you want to know exactly what not to do when redesigning an established site with an already engaged community, HC is Exhibit A1.
 
They also had a bunch of people there who were tone deaf and greatly overestimated their abilities.

Too bad, Phil O'Keefe is a super nice man.
