Mojo Request Damn Im sore

Spent an hour and a half at the pool last night trying to get my kayak roll back. Sadly it didn't happen. Im so old and stiff it's just not working ...yet. Gonna take a lot more yoga and stretching and core building. After around 10 unsuccessful roll attempts I was exhausted. Rolling isn't about strength but more about flexibility and technique. But it seems Ive lost both along with the stamina to keep attempting for very long. This morning I can barely move, lol. My shoulders and knees are killing me. I've dosed up on Ibuprofen and trying to decide what I can do today to work that sht out since yoga clsss is cancelled till Monday.
4-5 yrs of aging and inactivity has taken its toll. Its gonna be a hard road but I'll get there dammit. Right now the plan is yoga MWF and Im gonna start walking at least a mile the days between, hopefully graduating to some more serious cardio. Next pool practice in 2 weeks. Im picking up my new boat tomorrow, last night I used a borrowed one. In the meantime I'll stay on the program and get my own boat set up and fitted to me and see how it goes next time.

I feel your pain. I played pickleball yesterday after not playing for over a month and I'm feeling it today. Mojo. Yoga and stretching should help you.

Thanks everybody for the encouragement!
After the Ibuprofen kicked in this morning Ive felt a lot better the rest of today. Well enough to get a few chores done anyway without too much pain and stiffness. But whoo, this morning when I made this post I could barely move.

I may have to hire an instructor at some point if the roll doesn't come back in a month or two. Im sure theres some credentialed instructors in this club of over 400, even if the whitewater contingent is only a small fraction. The guy who loaned me the boat last night was helping by spotting me, but by his own admission wasn't much help otherwise. Once you get it, it's kinda intuitive. It usually takes someone trained to break down the process and actually teach it efficiently. Shoulda done that the last go round 10 yrs ago. Not getting a dependable roll back was a big reason I convinced myself I was too old and gave up. Even tho I could do it reliably when I was 40, I shouldn't be too proud to hire somebody qualified to point out where it's falling apart and give me some expert feedback. If all else fails Im sure they will be a good clinic somewhere in the Southeast this spring. But Im still not gonna miss my local winter class II/III, even if I have to be super cautious to stay upright.

2nd pool practice and I hit an effortless roll right at the end of the session.
Thanks to some excellent coaching this time and my own boat outfitted to fit me.
Now at least I know it's not an impossible dream to get back on some whitewater!
Yoga is going well, getting some flexibility and core back already, and Ive already dropped 5 lbs just by cutting out the junk food and ice creme.
If I can just get back to where I was 5-6 yrs ago physically and loose another ten pounds I'll be in great shape for an old man in spite of this damn rheumatoid arthritis.

Back in the pool Tue night. 1st roll attempt was clean and perfect, then it seems I got worse w every try and only hit 2-3 more rolls but not as cleanly on first try, and hit 4-5 more rolls on 2nd try. Then I started getting tired after about an hr and had to pull my skirt and bail out after a 3 try attempt, so I hung it up for the night.
Next morning I felt it. Shoulder was hurting bad from all those unsuccessful tries and my RA was flaring up, so I dosed up on meds and skipped yoga. Better today so I think I can handle yoga in the morning, lol.
Sucks getting old but I’m not giving up, it’s just gonna be a long slow deliberate road back to decent shape.

Man Ive been thru it the last 2 weeks. 2 Sundays ago I started getting a cold, runny nose and sinus drainage. I think I picked it up at the Don Was show.
Im going damn, I havnt been sick since before covid. Then things got worse, and worse, and by the next Sat Im dying. Coughing my guts out and could barely breath even tho I hadn't smoked since it started and was getting by on nicotine patches. So I finally go to the local Doc in a Box on Saturday. They were actually great. Got me right in, gave me a breathing treatment, swabbed me for all the sht, covid, RSV, etc. None of that, just a killer case of extreme bronchitis. So they gave me scripts for an inhaler, 5 days of prednisone, and 3 days of antibiotic, and slowly but surely I got things cleared up over the next week.
But this was the roughest thing Ive been thru in a LONG time. Im taking the lesson learned to finally quit cigs for good and gonna continue w the nic patches as long as it takes.
Im finally feeling pretty damn good, Lungs are clearer than they've been in years.
Im going to go pick tomorrow and we'll try out the mando player, and Im starting the yoga back next week.
I missed a good paddling opportunity when the water came up while I was out of it,
but the weather is warming up here next week and hopefully water levels will hold and I can get out on the river soon.
