Question: Classic Rock spinoff thread #1 - what bands are you most tired of?

Foreigner- If I hear Cold As Ice one more time I might go on a killing spree.

War- They can Lowride themselves off of a cliff.

The Beatles... :)

Actually, there are a lot of Skynard songs I still enjoy hearing, just not the same big hits...

I'm sick of "The Joker" steve miller band, or pretty much any Steve Miller

"Boys are Back In Town" Thin Lizzy

and pretty much any Foreigner. :embarrassed:

I don't know that anythings falls into this category for me. There are times where I get sick of a band, then I go a while without hearing them and then I like it again.

This. Foreigner is eminently forgettable, if they would let us. I can't believe they were so popular. Oh, and most Jefferson Startship, especially the mid to late 80s stuff.

A couple Eagles songs too. Not all but at least a couple. Some is just so pretentious and arrogant sounding for some reason.

Some Zep. Especially stuff that features too much of Plant's screamy whiny vocals. I like some Zep a lot still, but other stuff drives me nuts. Again, seems way too cool for me some times.

There is lots of other stuff too. Any soft 70s hits (not the early folk stuff, the later schmutz from the mid 70s).

Chicago in the late 60s early 70s, like. When Cetera screwed em up, dis-like.

I love me some Buffet, but Cheeseburger in Paradise drives me nuts.

Most big hair music, Van Halen excepted. Except the VH stuff that has too much keys. I kinda like Doors keys, not so much VH keys. Not a Hagar fan either.

The Who, The overplayed Rolling Stones song that should roll into a pit and buried, The Beatles crap that gets too much airplay and they even have a dedicated Sunday show for four hours here in LA. Led Zepplin's standard rotation of crap. I used to love Black Dog, now we just to put that one on the smoker's pit. Play some different stuff please..., The (B)eagles. I love Don Henley's music but dang, how many more times can I listen to Hotel California or Take It Easy. The Ramones - With several albums worth of music, can you play something other that "I Wanna Be Sedated"?

Sigh.....

Well, I realize everyone worships those guys, and as a kid in the 70s, I quite enjoyed my Hey Jude album... Still, as much as I appreciate their song writing skills, I'm fucking sick of them...

I'm sick of the stuff that gets played on the radio too, but I'll never speak ill of The Beatles.

AC/DC and The Rolling Stones are the ones that have been worn out the most for me.

It's really a shame because most of these bands have stellar B-side tunes that never see the light of day. Skynyrd especially, IMO. The bands get such a bad rap because the same handful of songs get spun over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

Yeah, Ballad of Curtis Loewe is a great song. My brother's band used to play that one and the crowd always got pissed that it wasn't Free Bird. :(

i think all of them do (well, maybe not Foreigner or the Eagles). but the Classic Rock gods have said "no you will listen to these songs in perpetuity" and this is what we're stuck with. for the life of me, i can't figure out why.

I'm sure there are Skynyrd songs that I would like, but I'm not a big country fan, so Southern Rock doesn't really fire me up either.... combine that with overplaying the same couple songs and it just wears down my will to live.

That said, in our area the Harder Rock bands have worn out their "hit songs" faster IMO that even the same, tired Boston, Foreigner, Brian Johnson-era AC/DC and so on that gets played into the ground. Seriously anything post Black Album by Metallica, Korn, Creed, Slipknot, and probably a dozen other bands that I lump into one indefiniable mush of growling and thrashing guitars.... those things usually have me turning the radio to NPR or Off.

I'd rather listen to wind and tire noise than "whiskey in the jar-o". :annoyed:

It's been some years ago, but I got to go to a market research deal once where we rated songs. They played a five second snippet from the hook and you push the button, 1-5, onhow much you liked it. I was surprised to hear many off the wall tunes on that day. I tended to rate the overplayed ones low and the lesser known ones high, just because.
The reasearchers told us that we each represented approximately 20,000 listeners.
Didn't seem to do much good, as the rotation on my local classic rock station has moved from the 60s to the 70s and 80s and the song list gets narrower every damn day. I swear, they play AC/DC every friggin hour.
