Can we all pause to respect the lowly potato peeler?

As I was peeling my carrots this morning, as I do often for my brown bag lunch, I was struck by what a useful tool the potato peeler is. No moving parts, nothing to wear out, pretty much last a lifetime and somehow keep their sharp edge. Sure there are a few variations on the basic design, but at their core, they're all pretty much the same.

You're actually peeling away some good nutrients when you peel your carrots. Its mostly an aesthetic thing, unless you've got some old grizzly carrots on hand.

My dad told us when they got in trouble, they'd be put on potato peeling duty in the Navy. They would end up cutting their fingers, which made the potatoes a little bloody.

Not his ship, but close enough.

A friend of mine uses his peeler as practice for proper bow holding technique  I don't play violin so can't even image
