My birthday was coming up so I decided to treat myself. Friday afternoon I sent an email to see if a Direct Drive v4 was available to ship and, as usual, David answers his own emails. The pedal arrived this morning and predictably, it sounds glorious.

I could live to be 800 years old and never understand why Barber isn't a much, much bigger name in the pedal world.

I think Barber gets a lot of respect, but yeah, not sure about how its overall sales compare. I have the DD mode on my Strymon Sunset, and it's an interesting circuit.
 
I don't know what I was expecting but there's a ton of difference between my old DD (bought new in '05 or so) and the one that arrived today. The original DD sound is definitely in there but it's much more versatile. The old one has internal trim pots to fiddle with and it has a push-pull tone knob, but this new one seems to cover more ground with the toggle switch setup. There's a great low gain setting, basically an LTD, but there's hair-on-fire DD at the flick of a switch too.
 
I had a Dirty Bomb for awhile...nice pedal, brought the BROOTALZ...Barber isn't bigger because he doesn't want to be...
