Any marksmen here?

Recently inherited a firearm and have been to the range shooting. Have to say, even though probably not politically correct anymore, I am really enjoying this.

Anyone else shoot?

It's been a while, but I have some very fond memories of my dad and I going to the range with my trusty .22 as a kid. I got pretty good with it.

I shoot a lot these days, as the Swiss have a real passion for marksmanship. Also, you can purchase very exotic firearms here relative to what is legal in the USA, so it kind of kick started my interest in shooting again.

I think most of the shooting sports discussions are in the thread Lerxst linked.

I'm telling George Soros about this. We are going to take your piece and totally tread on you!

Shouldn't have taunted the illuminati with the molon labe bumpersticker, bro!

I haven't shot a gun in probably 30 years. When I was a kid, we had a house on 75 acres in the blue ridge mountains and my grandfather had a bunch of guns. It was pretty fun shooting them.

I haven't shot in awhile, but by U.S. Air Force standards I was a marksman with the M16 : )

During basic training I shot fairly well, but missed the scoring part of the target twice. I'm a good enough shooter that on one of the misses I knew I jerked the trigger, the other miss I should have been on target but the bullet didn't cooperate. Basic Training used M16's chambered for .22 long rifle, and NOT the .223, so there is some slop in the barrel for that round and it's not as accurate.

The other 5 times I shot the real .223 version I qualified for Marksman each time.

I did qualify on the .38 snub-nose revolver too, but didn't get marksman with it. Again, I missed marksman by 2 shots...again one was a jerked trigger, the other I should have been dead on but the bullet ended up hitting the dirt in front of the silhouette (bad round, maybe?). For getting Marksman with the .38, one got 12 rounds close, 12 rounds a bit further away, and 12 rounds at medium range. All had to be double action, no cocking the trigger beforehand, and you had to pop up from behind a barrier, fire off 6 rounds, pop down behind the barrier, reload, then pop back up with the other 6 rounds. And you had to be relatively quick, you didn't get a lot of time.

Then you had to place all 36 rounds in the silhouette, and 30 of those rounds had to be within a small circle on the chest, to get your Marksman badge. I placed 30 rounds within the circle, but like I said I missed the silhouette with 2 rounds :(

Target shooting/ plinking is relaxing to me. It is no different that shooting baskets ,throwing darts.
It is a time to concentrate on a goal

Better than practicing scales.

I did quality Expert in rifle, and pistol in The USMC.

I like a Ruger 10/22 for rifle and Ruger MK II for pistol plinking.

This what I am looking to acquire soon

I used to, but sold all my rifles and pistols. I had a Colt AR-15 for a few years before the USMC, so I got really good with it early on. My Special Forces uncle taught me how to field strip it without looking back then. My grandmother taught he and his twin how to shoot, too.

I still own an 870 12GA for home protection and inherited an Italian 9mm from my grandfather. I wouldn't mind owning a Springfield Armory .40SW XD 4", however.

What piece do you shoot baskets with?

I used do skeet shooting. Haven't done it in a while and both of our local skeet ranges shut down years ago.

Oh wow...definitely missed that one...I’ve got some reading to do

I inherited a S & W 39-2 9mm, S & W 1980 17-4 6 in 22LR with original box and paperwork, and a 1953 Browning Sweet 16

The 39-2 and the Browning will always be with me but the 22 target pistol i am going to trade in on a used S &W PC1911 .45

Dont you dare trade your fathers K22 masterpiece/model 17 for some boy-racer 1911!!!! (You can thank me 20 yrs from now)
