Achtung Lerxst !!!!11! .....AHOY Pacific Noorthwesterners

My kid is getting a bit annoyed at all the locals whining, to be honest. We were worried, but he made a ghetto AC like I taught him years ago (before we had AC in the house) out of a fan and a bag of ice. Says their apartment hasn't been above 80. The best thing about this heat wave is that he has had Burnside skatepark mostly to himself the past few days since everyone else seem to be melting. He's been skating before and after work, and his co workers are convinced he's either insane or on some drug they haven't figured out yet.

Mojo to those suffering, but it aint the end of the world (yet).

well, hopefully he's safe. 115 ain't no joke even to a desert rat. Back in the early 2000's when I used to mountain bike we had a hopt stretch and of course I was working in it, might've been the second week of July. Well on Saturday morning me and a friend met up at a local trail and after about 2 miles we stopped to rest , have some fluids and of course smoke a bowl. It was intended as a short stop so we didn't dismount the bikes, next thing I know i was picking myself up off the ground. My buddy said we were talking and my eyes just rolled back and then I fainted. Luckily it didn't get worse but we caustiously made our way back the vehicles. That's the closest i ever had with a heat stroke (not heat exhuastion which I'm sure I had manyt times). it ain't no joke and iot can defin itely sneak up on you.

Today is supposed to be 115 then back down into low 90s for the rest of the week. Maybe a day or two in the upper 80s.
Funny to think how 'low 90s' sounds cool compared to the past three days we've had.
I just checked and it said yer 106 right now....I think you guys have a chance to make it :thu: Last time when we were 115 it was 108 at noon so you are definitely on target :jam:

Rain sent, but I don't think it will make it there.

Really humid over here too.

Had a tornado scare yesterday. no damage here thankfully but they were sighted close. Looks like rain again today. I guess we didnt get much rain in the spring so this must be our rainy season just late.
Some local farmers just posted that their U- pick cherries are exploding from all the water.

I have to ask for @DdBob: Is it a dry heat?
I'm a big weather nerd so I've been keeping an eye on the situation. To answer the question....yes it is a dry heat. the highest I saw over the last few days has been 22 percent. I think it just comes with the superheat. When you get up in these temps the humidity just burns away
here is Portland right now sitting at 15 or 12 percent .....take your pick

Might be in Portland but here in Western WA it isn't that dry. Yesterday was 97 and about 50% humidity today is 100 and about 40. For an area that doesn't get that kind of heat. Might also be because we are very close to the ocean. Doesn't look like we will break our record high for indoor temps but it was hard to get things cool last night and to add to the discomfort there was a fire nearby so had to close up for a while until the smoke cleared. Cooler air is supposed to come tonight I hope

Plus Puget Sound, with all the inland salt water, in the middle of all the most populated parts.

We were up over 90 today, and will be so for most of a week or so it looks like. Way too hot and not normal for up here in the mountains, but nothing like my old home is getting right now. Sending cooling vibes to all you folks.

We have to head over there for this weekend to do some family business and are glad to see it will be back down in the 80’s even if upper 80’s over the weekend. But, in Puget Sound, upper 80’s is still pretty hot in my book, with the normal humidity. (Not like Deep South humid, but a lot more moisture than in the air in the mountains of Idaho, which keeps it from cooling off at night as much). Hang in there!

On the one hand, an event like this is clear evidence of a changing, warming climate. And it’s kinda scary.

On the other, here on the East Coast we’ve been getting Cat 4-5 storms and 100+ Summer degree temps for 50+ years.

Deal with it, hippies.

The southwest heat wave has passed and Boulder was a cool 64° until around 3pm, when it warmed up to about 72°.

That's Like Silver City , N.M. which is in the sw corner of NM just north of Lordsberg but it is just short of 6000 feet and up in the mountains. We lived there about two years when I was a kid so I still look at the temps from time to time....they've been getting rain everyday for the past week or so and high's in the low 70's but everytime I look they are in the low 60's but it's not supe4r unusual for them, they have climate somewhat similar to Durango.
meanwhile at least lerxst wasn't in Salem
