2025 Concert Thread

Super envious. And Laur's playing a doublecut!
Unbelievable player. That was my second time seeing him. He split his time between a Strat (only used for the first couple of songs), a Tele, that LP Jr, and a relic'd Friedman.

Tonight I'm seeing Bob Dylan. I won't have pictures of the show:

I just spent wayyyyy too much money for section 1 seats for Suicidal Tendencies, Pantera, and Metallica. But it’s going to be The Boy’s first concert, so I want to do things right. And I really like Pantera.

I'm glad to report that the mobile device free event was refreshing. I was sad that I couldn't take a picture to show how damn awesome our seats were (they were decent -- dead center stage and a bit more than halfway back the auditorium), but it was great not having to look through people's phones to see the stage.

Dylan's band sounded great; Dylan's voice was Dylan's voice, but he sounded better than I expected. He sat or stood at the piano the whole show, banging out chords mostly. Played a solid 1 hr 45 minutes, took a bow at the end, and the band left the stage. It's the first show I've been to in which I lowered the overall age demographic.

Was Charlie Sexton his guitar player and doing vocals for this tour? Charlie's great...as is Mr. Dylan (obviously and on another level).

Larkin Poe was fantastic!
Both sisters are BMFs on their respective instruments. Their vocal blend was perfect all evening, and Rebecca's lead vocal kicked ass. The band was tight as hell, and they brought it. They did a few bluegrass-esque songs in the middle of the set with mandolin and standup bass, which would've been cool, but the one mic they brought out to do it with wasn't loud enough. Plus the audience wouldn't shut up. So it was very hard to hear. OTT, a perfect night.

Damn, I sure wish I could attend this one.

Today I took the boy to his first show. He was one of the singers. He was not bad for a 13 year old with less than a year of singing lessons.

Charlie's fantastic. I'm guessing he didn't bust out a rendition of 'Beats So Lonely', but wouldn't it be cool if he did?

I'd love it. He's been a part of the Bowie tribute shows a bit and that tune would be perfect in that context. I could see him doing a bluesy variation on it in other contexts.

Living Colour at the Birchmere last night...they were awesome as always. Cory at 60 still sounds like he's 20 effn 3, it's crazy.

Got to shake Vernon's hand, for whatever the hell that's worth. Here's some pics...

That's W. Kamau Bell who intro'd the band, singing their praises...

Samantha Fish is coming to town in September. I scored two seats, front row center. My husband might be out of town for work but in that case I’ll take the boy. It’s a local county performing arts center venue and they have food so I ordered a picnic basket of charcuterie.

We had to sell our DMB for Bethel tomorrow...every time we've tried to leave VA over the last few months something has prevented it. Pretty bummed as we've never been to a tour opener for the band.

Still looking forward to the Avetts at Wolf Trap next weekend.

I just realized I never posted any pics from the Larkin Poe show on 5/9 @ the 9:30 in DC. Here ya go. They were great, btw, highly recommend. :thu:

That'll be a fun show. First time I saw her was way back in 2014 at a blues festival. She was a youngster and jut getting started and was a midday/unkown act. She's come a long way since then.

Santa Fe hosts a lot of free concerts every summer and this year's lineup looks great. I may not get to all of these but I'm going to try.
