2025 Concert Thread

I’ve got tickets to see Milli Vanilli in August. It’s not the original artists who had their Grammy Awards revoked. However, the current performers will be lip syncing to the original vocals and music.

I have two shows lined up, one in April and one in May.

...and a good time was had by all.

Marty is coming back to my hometown soon. I may go, but last time he played an all acoustic show. Marty mostly played mandolin and the drummer played brushes on a hand drum and sang harmony. It was a great show but I kinda wanted to hear some Telecasters and a full drum kit. Kinda thinking he'll prob do the same this time. Its a very small old theater in my podunk out of the way small town.
So Im still undecided on it.

If the Superlatives are backing him, there will definitely be Telecasters. Both of their Teles (Marty and Kenny) had benders, and they both knew how to use 'em.

All the Superlatives were with him last time. Marty and Kenny swapped out on mandolin and flat top. Pretty much an all bluegrass show. No Teles or benders in sight. Not a bad thing, but you can understand why I was kinda disappointed.

Every time I watch Marty and his Superlatives, quite apart from the jaw-dropping playing and singing, I covet their nudie suits. I'd honestly love to get one, I'd gig it in all the time, regardless of whatever music I was playing. I always liked Mike Mills wearing his regularly in REM. I think it'd be cool to wear one, it's a real 'I'm here to perform' statement. I love that Henri Cash from Starcrawler wears a nudie suit all the time to play scuzzy punk rock. (plus a repro of the Clarence White guitar!)

I agree, Nudie suits are the ultimate cool regardless of genre. One of my buddies that went with me, who is a marginal country music fan at best, commented that, "we need to get us some of those suits".

They're not cheap though.

Last night. Experience Hendrix. Had a great time with my oldest. Fender, Marshall, Epiphone were major sponsors.

Alley Venable: Best color coordinated outfit Played well but didn’t set the night on fire.

Devon Allman: ? Hasn’t Found his thing and didn’t sing very well. Like his timing was off.

King Fish Ingram: Best BB King tone. One of his covers wasn’t like Jimi would do it but straight up Albert King.

Zakk Wylde: Best over the top guitar performance. Played his ass off all over the place. Spent the most time with fans after the show. Played his Wylde Audio guitar but not his amps. Used Marshalls.

Eric Johnson: Had his tone dialed in and incorporated lots of EJ runs. Great playing.

Samatha Fish: Best singer of the night. Beautiful voice used a lot of her vocal range. Just wow. Showed the boys this guitar lady can and will cut your head off. One of the songs she did was “Angel”, just a great version.

Kenny Wayne Shepard: Best imitation of Hendrix being covered by SRV. The glow of arrogance in his comments and facial expressions was off putting. Played his ass off but just gave off the I’m a rock star vibe and you’re not. Have not seen him before but have seen a number of interviews with him and he didn’t come off like that before. It surprised me. Guessing he used his own Fender Dumble built amps, sound was spot on.

Manto Nanji: Was the second guitarist there when a second was used. Could really play. Wylde, Johnson, Fish, and Sheperd, did not use a second guitarist on all their songs. They did one song where the did a duet with someone else otherwise no 2nd guitar player.

Sounds like a fun show! I've seen many of them before and haven't been disappointed by any of 'em. :thu:

Good to hear Mato is still out there playing. I haven't heard much about him or his band (Indigenous) in several years now.
