Collectable Grateful Dead-inspired Semi-hollowbody
The D’Angelico Premier Grateful Dead DC is a collectable semi-hollowbody guitar with sublime tone and killer Grateful Dead-inspired aesthetics. From the first note, you’ll delight in the bright, resonant tone and copious levels of sustain that are produced by its semi-hollow maple body. You’ll also appreciate the feedback-free performance afforded by its solid centerblock. The Premier Grateful Dead DC is jam-packed with a diverse range of tones — from jazz-tinged cleans to high-gain distortion, this guitar can do it all. Exploring this semi-hollowbody’s fast-and-smooth 14”-radius fingerboard is a pleasure, while getting around its comfortable C-shaped neck feels effortless. The Premier Grateful Dead DC is a real looker, thanks to its iconic red-white-and-blue Dead lightning bolt graphic, pearloid Block fingerboard inlays, 1-ply cream binding, Skyscraper truss rod cover, and Grateful Dead headstock logo. If you’re hunting for a fun-to-play semi-hollowbody, pick up a D’Angelico’s Premier Grateful Dead DC. But be warned — you won’t want to put it down!
The Premier Grateful Dead DC features a resonant all-maple semi-hollowbody with a comfortable double-cut shape. As a tonewood, maple positively shouts, yielding a bright tone with long sustain and a lot of bite. This bell-like tone enables your notes to spring to life, then gently decay into a long sustain — perfect for leads and solos. A solid centerblock effectively keeps feedback at bay. The Premier Grateful Dead DC’s set-thru maple neck not only lends incredible sustain to your playing, it also adds a bit of snap to your tone. The neck is capped with a rosewood fingerboard, which is renowned for its smooth feel and warm tonality.
D'Angelico pickups deliver classic humbucking tones
The D’Angelico Premier Grateful Dead DC comes loaded with a set of balanced-sounding chrome-covered D’Angelico humbuckers. Whether you’re aiming for jazz-tinged cleans, dirty blues, high-gain distortion, or something else entirely, these pickups deliver with full bass, bold mids, and glassy highs. A 3-way toggle allows for easy pickup switching, and each pickup features its own volume and tone knob for maximum tonal versatility. Of course, the first thing we wanted to know was if the Premier Grateful Dead DC can mimic Jerry Garcia’s tone. So, we ran it through an envelope filter and into a mildly distorted American-style amplifier, tore through the first couple bars of “Estimated Prophet,” and sure enough — instant Jerry tone.
D'Angelico: Excellence Embodied
Manhattan's Little Italy, 1932. John D'Angelico opens a shop at 40 Kenmare Street offering handcrafted acoustics for New York's jazz players. Over the next three decades, D'Angelico and a single apprentice became New York's foremost builders and created over one thousand treasured archtop guitars until John D'Angelico's death in 1964. After his passing, D'Angelico's legacy lived on only through his rare, legendary instruments. After decades, the D'Angelico brand has resurfaced, bringing back the playability and attention to detail of their New York roots. Today, D'Angelico uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and the best materials available to create playable works of art for today's guitarist.
