New car thoughts. EDIT: I ORDERED A TESLA MODEL Y.

Regardless of manufacturer or dealer, always run the numbers on the paperwork before signing. My wife caught an $1800 "mistake" the last time we bought.
Agreed, weirdly all of that is don’t through the app. All of the payments/financing has to be completed before delivery day. Pretty cool process.

Best delivery process I’ve experienced. Took 5 mins to sign title documents, and we were down the road 10 mins later. We were literally out the door in under 20 mins.
Have a little checklist for QC inspection of possible fit and finish issues that can get fixed by the dealer if they were not caught, but have everything else pretty much arranged, and have the numbers handy to double check as well.

@reverend1 I am financing about half as I got a good deal, and want some flexibility after talking to my investment guy, with cash I could have otherwise used, and otherwise am just bringing a certified check for the remainder, so therefore have the numbers already looked at. Shouldn't be anything else to look at in terms of numbers there.

Everything went well, the one small QC issue I could find, a misaligned headlight cover, was fixed there. Super fun to drive home too! The autopilot is still calibrating, via the cameras, and should be operating fully tomorrow. This is the standard version. Not FSD.
I love the color, loved the drive home, and loved not putting petrol in it!

Finally had someone with a T punch it beside me and take off. Acceleration was off the hook. I could never own one. They would constantly find me on the side of the road out of juice because I
I would floor it every chance I had.

@DinoMikeSr @MonkeyZero It is funny. Mine is the Long Range model, and they sell a Performance model with faster acceleration. But also, you can pay 2k to upgrade the acceleration in my model via software to gain back most of the acceleration difference that the Performance model has. The P also has bigger brakes and a lower suspension.

But after going out last night to test the lights, and also doing some short accelerations and one or two longer ones, I come away with why would I pay 2k to do that? This thing is super fast when I want it to be, and no need to pay 2k for even more. Gonna put that money into a PPF front bra for the bugs and rock chips that will come with time and miles instead. Passing a slower semi heading up a long hill over a pass where there was enough, but not a super long straight on which to pass, that acceleration was super nice to have. I would have made it in my other cars but the stress of being out there in the other lane watching what is coming around the next bend was shortened significantly. And that torque and acceleration was available immediately from the speed I was traveling. No need for rpm’s to get to the power band, shifting to get there, any of that.

Yep, it's just instant response. I had a hard time getting used to it slowing down so fast when you come completely off the accelerator though. It's an adjustment.

My drive home from the Boise Tesla shop is over a hundred miles, and by the time I had done that drive, I had a good start on developing the feel to not give me or my passenger that abrupt deceleration/brakes full on feel. Doesn’t take long. I double checked and made sure the car turns on the brake lights when that is doing down too, and it does. At first I wondered if I needed to get a foot on the brake pedal to alert following drivers. But no, that is handled.

Will be interesting going back to my other rigs that coast if feet are not on pedals. But I drove my whole life that way and most of it using a clutch so I am sure within a half mile, I will be ok for whatever rig I am in that day. We have a trip to the Gorge concert venue for the Brandie Carlile concert this weekend, with a stop in Walla Walla for some wine tasting. I booked that trip months and months ago, and we are sleeping at the venue camping which is just a grass field with bathrooms/showers. I had planned the trip to use my full camper on my truck.

Had I known for sure the car would be here, and that fuel prices would be what they are, I would have set myself up to camp from this car. But not really wanting to tent it in a concert parking lot with my wife, and I don’t have the plug in cooler that would take the place of the camper fridge. But probably with the right gear could have used this car and saved a good amount of money. Notes for the future!

So having had this car for a couple months, some of which I was out of town and not driving, and now having had my first real road trip, I can fully say I love the car, and other than vastly expanded public transportation, seems to me this is the way to go if you need to drive. (even if the cars are shared in some way). Basically, the car is fun as hell to drive, really comfortable, sounds good in terms of tunes, etc., I can have my bike laying down in the back or on a rack if someone needs to use the back seat, and charging is not really a pain, even on road trips, if you plan a little and leave some leeway in case the chargers are full for a bit. I like it.

Looks very nice indeed. HNCD

I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the instrument panel...

Phone normally goes there on the lower right where there are two surface style charging spots. But it was taking a picture then.

And Elon is still a jerk.

Oh, and the current speed is displayed in the upper left corner of that screen, where it says I am in park there. I have NO trouble seeing it and am not disturbed at all by no heads up display or secondary display in front of the wheel. I like the clean look myself.

I wouldn't mind a HUD, or a semi-HUD like my Prius had, but overall I like the look of that cockpit.

The windshield has an extreme rake to it!

It is significant, but I think the angle and wide angle setting from seated overemphasizes it some in the image. See the exterior images further up.
