the pedal does more than high gain i think... Aahazz has a clip of playing one with pretty low/medium gain. sounds pretty good

Heck, even if I buy new, it wouldn't take long to spend a lot more on individual pedals than the HD500... Of course, after I get the HD500, my obsessive compulsive nature will kick in, and I'll still want pedals...

Not to queer John's thread but you're in the perfect position for a multi-efx unit or even a computer interface/software package like Guitar Rig. You don't know what you want, don't already have a collection of pedals where you need to fill in the blank spots and modeling will give you the opportunity to sample a bit of everything.

i started out with a Digitech RP-10 in 1994. i had only been playing a few years, had no idea what i wanted, so i decided to get everything at once.
the board in my last pic, including cables and the board itself, cost me $1000.
