Listen to this - Soo I don't listen to a whole bunch of new music from new bands, but I took a chance on this Spotify recommendation and this album is stunningly good.

I have a feeling this will be pretty love or hate, probably mostly hate, for the folks here. And the first song is so jarringly different that I almost turned it off. But I am so glad that I didn't. The whole thing is great past that first song, and the second half of the album is just insanely good.

This is also the definition of a headphone album, if you've got a great set of cans you won't believe how good it sounds. I don't know who did the mixing or whatever but goddamn this is the first time I've really been floored by an album in I don't know how many years.

I suspect the first song will turn a lot of people off but either stick through it or skip ahead to track two. I'm on my second straight listen through in a row..

There's a Woodstock/Psychedelia/Garage Rock/Funk element happening that's really compelling here...interesting...

The sound mixing alone deserves a medal. The album just sounds incredible in my nice headphones.

There's a lot of shouting :embarrassed: But yeah, the production is good.
get past the first song!!! :embarrassed:

Haha, of course tastes vary but I think that you gotta listen to the whole record to really appreciate it because that first song is not really representative of the rest of it. and the second half is just crazy good, from Half Real to the end...

Very well recorded. Super immediate and energetic. Reminds me of a strain of Aughts stuff like that Unicorns record and Les Savy Fav and Detachment Kit and The French Kicks and even the Walkmen—basically there’s some post-hardcore art kids vs. ye olde classic rock stuff happening here.

Thanks for posting this! Still digesting the album, and I'm also watching a live performance for comparison. I'm enjoying it a lot, I'm hearing a Neutral Milk Hotel, M.J. Lenderman, and Songs: Ohia/Jason Molina thing, but also elements of Tom Waits? ('Bow Down' is like Sly's There's A Riot Goin' On crossed with Tom Waits). And then now and again I get little hints of the Minutemen or something, appearing like a vestigial third nipple.

The more I listen, the more I like it. I'm glad I bought some good headphones recently, I feel I'm getting the value of them with this album.
There are some really well-thought out instrumentation and timbrel choices (like the trombone on 'Islands of Men'), and I really appreciate the unexpected directions the band takes. Special shout-out to the rhythm section and especially the drummer, he's absolutely killing it. I'm gonna send a link to the drummer of my old band because I know he'll appreciate them.

Yeah man. I got a couple tickets to their show here in December and I'm so pumped.

That's great! I've been listening to some live videos (KEXP and various concerts) and they sound terrific. I'd be really stoked to see them too.
