NGD - is it good enough?

I discovered today that this guitar really doesn't like 9s. I use 9s on all of my PRS, so I put a set on there and...NOPE! Sounded plinky. I briefly wondered if stock Gibson strings had some magic, but threw on a set of D'Addario 10s I had and there was the voice I love!
With lighter strings, there is less tension on the neck. This brings the action down causing sizzle, or plink. Typically, you can loosen the truss rod to get the action back up where it was with 10’s. I use a strobe tuner to check intonation at the 12th fret until the guitar is back at the correct relief.

Long ago, I used to run heavy strings on all my guitars. So, I always had to tighten the truss rod to compensate. Now, I put 9’s on my Gibson (24.75”) scale length guitars. I put 8’s on my Fender (25.5”) scale length guitars. I don’t have problems with plink.

I thought about tweaking the action with the 9s, but it plays so well and sounds so good with the 10s that it was easier to just slap some 10s back on it.
