Happy New Mojave Mic Day!

I've been looking for a few mic for awhile and had been doing some research when i came across some reviews of the Mojave 201fet. Mojave is David Royer's "other" company (his ribbon mics are considered some of the best in the industry) and so far they have four models they produce, 2 being tube and the other two being solid state (fet) designs that compliment the tube designs, as well as being more affordable. The 201fet lists for $695 on Sweetwater and other audio sites... I came across this one on ebay for $500 BIN and decided to go for it. It arrived today and while I can't record clips until later this evening, I'm quite excited to try it out. Here are some pics in the meantime:

If you want to check it out more, check out http://www.mojaveaudio.com/MA-201fet.html. Here is the review that sold me on it: http://recordinghacks.com/reviews/tapeop/mojave-audio-ma-201-fet/ I'm a big fan of TapeOp and their advice has yet to let me down. :thu:

Oh and I figure Mark will eventually want to move this to Recording, but seeing as that forum moves like fat people in Huntington, West Virginia...

BTW, i thought this thread was going to be "Happy New Maker's Mark Day"

:embarrassed:

Ok, I was having a bitch of a time getting anything good tonite... not because of the mic, but I was just off.

Piano is one of my mum's piano students playing at the end of her lesson. I picked up the mic a couple of times and I split the one long clip so you can hear how I moved it... you can even hear me adjusting it a bit on the track, but I didn't have time for any really detailed piano clips. Also, all of the clips with the exception of the one marked Wet are all without compression, eq, verb, etc. It's the sound of the instrument in the space it's in.

Clip One is about three feet away from Middle C at the end of the piano, lid fully open:

Clip Two is over the treble side, lid open, and the mic slightly angled towards the bass strings:

Clip Three is about 5 feet away from the piano, angled right to towards the curve in the body, lid fully open:

Sorry that's all I got in me right now. :(

Morning bump.

Fixed the piano links too, since they appeared to be broken.

Nice!

I'd like to hear the mic on your '69 steel string...

That will not happen until I have a set-up back here at home. That thing doesn't leave the house and certainly not to a place where there are kids. :embarrassed: My coverfest entry will probably have my Simon & Patrick and my Godin on it. Apparently I really like Canadian guitars.

I even let my students play my Suhrs sometimes :embarrassed:

Don't you generally teach older kids? About half of my students can't even play a full-size guitar and of those that can I'd trust maybe three of them. Last week I had a student come within an inch of hitting the new Godin right after I told him to please be careful. I called him on it and he said "Okaaaaaay... I'll be careful!" and then he whacks his headstock into my bass drum. :annoyed:
