Sid didn't just fall down, he had his left foot taken out, then took a stick to the face, THEN fell down. Niskanan then tried to help stop his fall by cross checking his face. Seems legit to you?

The point is that his left foot wasn't "taken out" there was a collision of feet, and dude didn't try to cross check his face but because Crosby was falling, that is where the impact was.

Two minute cross checking penalty only. The dude has to control his stick but what is he supposed to do when Crosby head butts his stick. lol

It doesn't break my heart that he is injured. Karma is a bitch. An even bigger bitch than Crosby.

I thought the call on the ice was correct. It was a dangerous act even though there was no intent on his part I think, more protect but that doesn't make it ok. 5 min and a game I'm fine with but I don't see the need for anything additional.

It's too bad for Crosby, he a great player and has a history of concussions so you worry about his long term health not just his hockey health. I hope he's back soon. The Pens have enough to win without him still.
 
They discussed the Crosby incident on TSN today and it seemed to me to be 100% accurate.
Not intentional but still have to penalize Niskanen for 2 minutes.
Should have been a 2 minute slash penalty to Ovechkin.
There are slashes like that all game long that aren't called.

Things to observe:
Ovechkin's foot hits Crosby's foot. That's what puts Sid off balance and what makes him start to fall.
Niskanen's hands were close together - not like you set up for a crosscheck.
Niskanen wasn't even skating toward Crosby.


The hate here in Nova Scotia (Sidney Crosby's home Province) is thick. The hatred for Russian players is thick here too...maybe still lingering from 1972 Series vs. Russia. It's unreal. At least 50% of the people here think that Ovechkin should be suspended.

Indeed...and now even Fat Phil is in on it. I think they told him what one of the Caps players said about the incident and Fat Phil said "if he thinks that's clean then he's an idiot".

Now, I don't think it's clean either... I think all slashes should be penalized. I still the the 'cross check' was unintentional and only became a cross check due to circumstances that are talking place faster than the fastest runner that you know.

They have been very fun to watch. A Oilers/Preds conf final would be fun because both teams are very fast. There was a sequence in game 3 where the Preds kept the puck in the zone for about 2-2.5 min, the Dmen for the Blues were gassed and the Preds scored. It was as dominating a 2 min performance as I have seen all year.

So.....all that shit is fine if THEY'RE doing it, but if it happens to THEM, well, that's just unacceptable, eh?

I had put mine aside for the most part because he seemed to have changed a lot after coming back from his other concussion issues and then I did see a lot of that old stuff coming back toward the end of this season.

Definitely unfortunate but I couldn't have kept from making contact if I were in Niskanen's position and Kelly Ripa were in Crosby's - it's all happening at top speed and a lot of the actions are reflex.
