Mojo requested

Well, he's gone through pretty much every test known to man this week and we spoke last night. Even though the bone biopsy hasn't been analyzed yet, the scans show that the entire right side of the pelvis is involved as well as his spine and one shoulder, and there's a tumor in his lung as well. He has an appointment with an oncologist next Wednesday. Man, that was one of the roughest phone conversations I've ever had.
 
Thank you, everybody for the mojo. It worked (sorta'). He had all the tests last week, and it showed tumors in his pelvis, spine, shoulder, and one lung. Man, we had some pretty grim conversations last week. This week, he went to an oncologist who said that it's not actually osteosarcoma -- so they're not talking about amputating lots of pieces anymore. Rather, he apparently has stage four (i.e. metastatic) lung cancer, which was a shock. But, actually, there is an upside. Whereas the protocols for osteosarcoma are rather poorly understood, there has been so much research into lung cancers that there are much more robust treatments. Although it's not curable, he may be able to get treatment that will get him up and walking again, and give him at least a couple of years. We're not sanguine about this, but at least the prognosis is somewhat more hopeful, and the future somewhat less horrible than would have been had the initial diagnosis been confirmed. We're still not sure of the exact classification of the cancer (i.e. small cell, etc.) so there is still some uncertainty, but so far we're looking at this in the most optimistic light.

PS: he doesn't smoke...

Update -- it's apparently adenocarcinoma (not small cell). Apparently the docs are gonna do two-three rounds of chemo and his reaction to that will allow them to give him a guess as to how long he has left. My research indicates that the five-year survival rate is vanishingly small... Did I say that cancers sucks?
