Essential 'Guy' Movies..

OK, so this thread is like 5 years old. Some interesting observations:

1) Drummergirl is actually out of town this weekend too. So it's another guy weekend! What a coincidence. (Sink, here I come. And I gotsta piss!)
2) I've seen a lot of the movies mentioned since then and you guys have great taste.
3) Out of the ones I remember having seen, that I hadn't before, I'd have to say Devil is Dill won the thread with Cool Hand Luke.

So... I guess this means I need to get some beers and watch some guy movies this weekend. What a great bump. (even if it was just to say "the notebook", jerk. We don't take too kindly to folks that like The Notebook round these here parts, fella!)
What guy wouldn't like The Notebook? It has the babe Rachel McAdams in it

I just watched This Is The End (Seth Rogen/James Franco) last weekend based on the recommendations of this forum. It's a campy movie for sure, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. And it's definitely a 'Guy Movie'.

I remember hearing about that one when it was relatively new. The world is ending and all those guys who are in each others movies are in a room together and just spending time until it all ends, right?

Johnny Dangerously is on Starz right now.
Strange Brew
History of the World pt1
Bullit
Rollerball ( the original )
Aliens

OK, first a guy meal. I'm running out for a "late" philly cheesteak and a few beers. When I get back, it's (more) beer and movie time!

Yeah, that's it. It was entertaining. It needed moar Emma Watson though :embarrassed:

Dish has a free preview of HBO, and Cinemax. Usually when there is a preview, they have no good stuff on, to try to get people to subscribe. thwap0

Blazing Saddles
Mr. Roberts (and the goofy sequel Ensign Pulver - if you can find it)
Dark Star - Dan Obannon and John Carpenter's first movie
Flesh Gordon (great send up of the old Flash Gordon serials, and porn!)
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
Excaliber (defines the word "epic" as applied to movies)
M*A*S*H
The Long Riders (the Keatch and Carridine brothers playing the James and Younger brothers. Superior to Tumbleweed, IMHO)
Pink Panther movies (the real ones with Peter Sellers)
Dr. Strangelove
Being There
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
Planet of the Apes (the original)
Easy Rider
2001

"Rooster Coburn"
"Matt Helm" movies starring Dean Martin
"The French Connection"
"Up In Smoke"
"Cheech & Chong's Next Movie "
"Nice Dreams "
"Death Wish" & "Death Wish II"
"Cruising" ( hey, it's Al Pacino)

Seen it and I'm not much for war movies and I already have Dirty Dozen on my list.

Saw it, loved it.

And should I watch Mad Max before Road Warrior? Or does it not really matter?

Patton is must see. Also, Catch-22 and M*A*S*H. So much more than just war movies.

Skip Commando. I think there is one scene in there where he is shooting so many bad guys that if you pay attention, a couple of them are cardboard cut-outs. Seriously.

Conan, Predator, and Total Recall are all classics though.
SKIP COMMANDO??!?!?!?

The best one liners in any Arnold movie.

You're dead to me.

That movie is essential watching for this scene alone:

John Matrix: [holds Sully upside-down over a cliff by his leg] Listen, loyalty is very touching. But it is not the most important thing in your life right now! But what IS important is gravity! I have to remind you Sully, this is my weak arm!

Sully: You can't kill me Matrix! You need me to find your daughter!

John Matrix: Where is she?

Sully: I don't know. But Cooke knows, I'll take you to where I'm supposed to meet him!

John Matrix: But you won't.

Sully: Why not?

John Matrix: [holds the hotel key he stole from Sully that Cooke is staying at] Because I already know. Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?

Sully: That's right, Matrix! You did!

John Matrix: I lied.
