BETRAYED!

Kick Henry Jackassowski
The Boy recently stopped taking dexedrine for his ADHD. It’s going to be weeks before the new medication kicks in. In the meanwhile he’s sort of insane.

I woke up at 2:30 am today with gastric distress that I will kindly not describe. Most of the day I’ve been alternating between feeling drunk and feeling high. So driving him to and from day camp and music was out of the question. My husband took over. And The Boy, who is acting like someone who’s been hitting a meth pipe and not sleeping for 72 hours, mentioned my gear habit. So my husband asked me how many guitars I have and how much they cost. Fortunately I am good at disassembling and misdirecting so I never mentioned what a Les Paul Custom or an American Vintage II P-bass actually costs. And he didn’t even ask about amps and cabs.

On the upside, I have also been changing medications and as a result I haven’t bought any gear since June. Now I have extra motivation to just play with all the shit I already have.

Ask if they would would prefer you collect drug habits and DWIs.

I just took an inventory and put an estimate for my music gear to get them insured. The total was way less than the neighbor’s fishing boat. That’s my story.

I talked a bit with a guy last weekend who was telling me about his guitar collection—30 guitars and half of them were Collings. Tell yr man to be glad he’s not married to this dude.

One of my work meetings was with two other musicians. One was joking about how he only buys gold guitars so his wife can't tell when he gets a new one. I told them they went about this all wrong. They looked at me funny and I said, "The key is marry a bass player who doesn't really like your type of music. She gets the gear thing, and since we don't have to play in the same bands we aren't adding that stress to bands."

We are both reasonable. I buy Epi Les Pauls instead of Gibson. She is brand loyal to Fender P-basses, but shops used. When I got my last Epi LP all she was "how is this different than the other 2 LPs you have?" I told her about the P90s and she said "go for it"

It's nice having a partner who gets, and supports your hobbies.
