I saw him at a FringeCon in Phoenix when I was in high school. Nichelle Nichols was there as well. Walter had a t-shirt that read "The Russian Is Coming" on the front and "The Russian is Going" on the back.

Koenig was a capable actor, but not the most versatile. He was solid as Alfred Bester in Babylon 5, perhaps, his best role.

Most of the acting in B5 was pretty poor, but Koenig's Bester was gold.

Walter Koenig and Shatner mostly got along on the original series, but experienced friction when filming the movies that followed. Yet, in a 2020 interview, Koenig described their differences as minor disappointments, rather than serious personal problems.

Who knew he was from Chicago? I always assumed he was eastern European. Was odd to see him speaking without the accent in interviews. Had me fooled

He was born in Chicago, but his parents were Russian Jewish immigrants from the Soviet Union. His father was a communist investigated by the FBI during the McCarthy period.

Walter was genuinely an ethnic Russian Jew by descent. Only his Russian accent was inauthentic.
