Quiet can make the difference. I'm more concerned with my ears than the neighbors so I got into the habit of staying at the bottom of the dynamic range.

I have a Boogie rig. I use pedals for Marshall. Marshalls rock if you rock. Me not so much but I like what I can get out of the rawness sometimes.
