This really ticked me off.

I didn't find the tone of the piece all that bad to be honest....especially considering the intended audience & it was crafted to grab the attention of aspiring performers.

Speaking as an "industry insider" myself, I can simply say the following:

Sell it somewhere else sister.

You should write a book and sell it for $4.99. You'll corner the market!

I suppose that if all you want out of your music is to be the next hapless dickbag to get bounced from American Idol before the camera crews even start shooting... well then there is some solid advice here.

Otherwise, it's just another example of someone who can't do something telling other people how to do it.

Oldest story in the world.

wow.

talk about an over-reaction.

wade sutton offers a service to those who wish to 'make it' in the music/entertainment industry. to me, it's a legit service. i read his webpage. i didn't see anything wrong with it. it's advertising.

'authenticity' has nothing to do with it. the music industry is not authentic. how else does one explain the popularity of any pop tart superstar.

there's plenty of people who want that music industry fame. there IS a formula and Wade is offering his interpretation and coaching of that formula. more power to him.

but really, the name calling and ridicule? he had the backbone to come on this forum and put forth his position. one can disagree with and dispute the idea, but respect the person.

sheesh.

he's no more a parasite than a label A&R guy, an equipment rep, band manager, producer, guitar teacher, session musician, etc...

he's identified a niche in the entertainment industry. if he's getting entertainers signed or noticed, then what he is selling is working.

I disagree with Wade's approach, and it is not for me, but I have nothing against him. In fact, I respect him for coming here to present his view and to interact with us. He has done so very respectfully. While I reject the whole "show biz/American Idol/pop tart" aesthetic, there are many who embrace it, and for those who want it, I am sure Wade is a valuable resource. We can disagree without being disagreeable.

It does seem to be a rather polarizing article.

I was pretty middle of the fence about it.

Comes off as a bit arrogant, and I can see where that can rub people the wrong way.

When I first read it, I was like "who?", but he's posting his opinion and offering his services......

If you think he can help, great.

If you're not interested, great.

Dunno what all the hub-bub is about, really.

He hovered over his google analytics until he saw some hits, then came here based on those hits. Aside from "explaining", he did a fair bit of selling.

That's a parasite.

Being friends with a guy who got fired by Taylor Swift doesn't exactly make one an industry expert.

I think this is where there is a great deal of misunderstanding. I don't work exclusively with artists who are of the "Americal Idol/pop tart" aesthetic. One of my clients is an incredible acoustic blues band out of Virginia made up of four men. I think the youngest of the bunch is maybe in his late 40s. All four are veterans and at least one of them is former special forces. Another client of mine is...they describe themselves as "uptown acoustic folk"...a man and woman from near the Atlanta area, both older and do a lot of shows at churches, fairs, festivals, etc.
