I switched from 9's to 10's on all my non LP electrics a few years ago and was really liking them (LP's already had them) but then I started playing less and lost the finger and hand strength to manipulate them.
About 9 months ago, I started playing almost exclusively acoustic.
Now, since I changed back to 9's, they all feel very loose and sloppy, so I too am going back to the 10's.
these seem to be the gauges these guitars like best (though the tele feels great with 10s without the bigsby). what i need to decide right now, is which ONE i want to play for the next month. because practicing on random instruments just isn't working for me right now. the feel differences are great, but they're not allowing me to get any real consistency and i feel it's holding me back. i'm already doing most of my practicing on my Taylor and my Dano (which is in Open E for learning slide). so i need to just pick one and go with it. right now, it's between my Ric and my Ibanez.
I go back and forth between 9s and 10s. Lately I've been using 10s. I still have to check out these Gibson Reissues that Mark has been talking about for years.
I used 09's for many many years, but since about 2008 i have been using 10's and i like the feel of them. I'm not as shreddery as i once was,and i find i get more tone from 10's
i actually decided to keep both my Ibanez and Ric out for this week. instead, i put my Taylor away. my Ibanez goes back to the music school on Saturday and the PRS will come back out.
all of my instruments are of the highest quality and perform exactly the tasks i require of them. you will find none finer at their respective categories and price points.
