I saw this in a thread on HCEG this morning. I'm not in love with the sound but I thought it was pretty funny.

I remember a guitar player magazine article about a guitar made of granite, but I have never been able to find a reference to it. I am pretty sure it was in the late 70's.

Yeah, Rick Derringer used to play one. I think the guy who made these was Joel Cawthorn.

I think that some of these guys must have had a stint with the "Tres Puercolocos Band," learning from their unsuccessful experiments with guitars made out of straw and sticks.
 
those Steelcasters there sound mighty damn awesome!

the concrete is better than I would have expected, and a darn giggly idea.
 
My favorite local guitar shop (Cream City Music), is a Trussart dealer. They sure do look and sound cool. But the prices - ouch!! IIRC, a cheap one's like $3500!

If we included acoustics, I'd say don't forget metal bodied resonator guitars. I picked up a NOS Republic Tricone Resonator guitar last week Saturday at the Chicago Guitar Show, for a great price ($400). The body of mine, is made out of nickel plated bell brass.

Uber cool, Ellen. I've always wanted to own a metal resonator. I guess I've stayed clear as I have NO slide experience at all, and those kind of scream to be played with a slide. Anyway, cool score!!! Maybe one of these days I will take the plunge.

Actually I didn't get it for slide (I've never been much of a fan of slide guitar). I fret it, and play it like your typical guitar. I just like the sound of them. They sound so cool! It had its original strings on (they were dark with oxidization to say the least), and I replaced them last night, with a set of 12 gauge, Martin Phosphor Bronze. It sounds like a million bucks now! :thu:

I'm rellay lliking all that I see and hear from Flaxwood guitars. Though you may still call them wood in a perverted sense.
 
A friend of mine met Trussart once. He invited him to his shop. I am begging him to take him up on it and invite me to tag along.

Years ago (the 80's) a customer brought it into the music store that I worked at in Hawaii and shared it with me.
