Songs or artists forgotten by time

When I bought my record player a few weeks ago, I went into my record collection. Half of my records are ones I bought in the 80s when I was into metal and punk, the other half are my uncles old records. My uncle lived with us until I was 13 and he was into all kinds of music, but I mostly have his mellower ones, like Poco, CSYN, Buffalo Springfield and this little gem.


I didn't remember this record and for the life of me couldn't remember the band Fools Gold. Put on the record and knew every song word for word. It was crazy.
 


Awhile back i saw that he now has face tats and posts david icke clips. He was in the news after trying to kill his more famous bro’s wife and being several million dollars in debt.

Is this thread '80's Nuggets, minus Lenny Kaye's distortion fetish?

I could play forever. Couple of additions to @OGG 's fine post.
- "This Corrosion" has colossal, insanely overdone kitchen-sink production ... because it was produced by Jim Steinman, producer of Bat Out Of Hell. Yep, THAT Bat Out Of Hell - Meatloaf. I'd have given anything to see that initial meeting with Eldritch.
- Eldritch's musically arid later period also featured a tremendously strange turn towards bodybuilding (he got all swole!) and dumb metal riffs. Forget your brain on drugs, it was a fantastic example of what too many stimulants can do to a person.
- I have the 12" vinyl EP for Wall Of Voodoo's take on "Ring Of Fire" and "the Morricone Themes" ... they were a great band at one point. Live show featured tons of pots and pans and Stan going crazy with the mic.

Fooled Around and Fell In Love was a tune I just learned to throw out when jamming at my neighbors. I’m always trying to find old hits to throw out for a jam. I’ve done Ebony Eyes, Baker Street, Daytime Friends and Nighttime Lovers, Driving My Life Away and a bunch of other 70’s and 80’s pop. It always cracks up my neighbor.
 
Gerry Rafferty was truly amazing - sad what happened.

There's a whole category of artists who aren't exactly forgotten, but who've gradually receded with time in their recognition - like Gram Parsons. Twenty five years ago, every hipster knew his work. Now not so much. I don't think Elvin Bishop was in his league, but there were a ton of 70's guys like Richie Furay who are just forgotten. It's a shame.

Half of the songs you've posted here are absolute staples in The Obscure80's Set List.





Chamber of Hellos, Jet Fighter etc... yeah, we did em all, and will continue to do so.

Nice scoop on the WoV vinyl BTW. A lot of that stuff is impossible to find and always was. I managed to track it all down back then and still have it.

Add the Rubber Rodeo tune. We both know that was one of the absolute high points of the decade.

I saw them play to about two dozen people in the Wellesley College student center. The month after: Mission of Burma. What a great decade that was.

just snagged Mars Needs Guitars for $2 at a used record store the other day. Blow Your Cool is one of my favorite albums.

A Million Miles Away has always been a favorite song of mine. Just awesome
