You just got home from Kohl's with your brand new shirt...

Do you wash it?

  • Hell yes, who knows what grimy person tried it on before me?

  • No, who's got the time for that? Besides, it's new, therefore it's clean.

  • No, in fact, I will likely wear it several times before I wash it.

Yes. I wash before wearing. I do this with all fabrics, sheets, towels, clothes, etc. I have a good reason.

New fabrics that you buy in the store have a layer of pesticides embedded in them to kill off insects that might get into them. I don’t want my skin rubbing up against a layer of pesticides. And, it always has a bit of a funny odor until you wash it out.

yup, if it's from a department store who knows who tried it on before
if it's from Amazon who knows where it came from

It really depends on the type and where I get it. I get work jeans and overalls at Tractor Supple and will always wash them. Any thing from Walmart. Anything shipped. Working, I would get white dress shirts monogramed on the pocket or cuff for court days. They were stick pinned together prior to packaging. Each had about 10 pins holding it together. The collars were so perfect and crisp. Usually wore them once before washing.
