Yo, Tupac nominated for the R&R Hall of Fame

Ugh this thread already annoys me and it hasn't even started yet. And it isn't because of the news, it's because of the hot takes we're bound to see.

yeah, any R&R HOF thread (even though I generally tend to agree with the detractors as to the HOF itself).

instead I shall say, congrats on the posthumous nomination.

I'll be the first to go on record as being of the opinion that rap is not rock & roll, and therefore artists who are either primarily or entirely known for making music in the rap/hip-hop genre are not qualified for induction. A band like Body Count on the other hand would be open for inclusion (not that I would support their induction).

When Johnny Winter gets a posthumous B.E.T. award we can talk.

Whatever last shred of credibility they had, they lost when they inducted a prog band.

So...

Zappa
Floyd
Queen
Metallica
Rush
Deep Purple

???

I wouldn't call any of these bands strictly "progressive rock", but they definitely added more composed and/or classical elements into parts of their catalog. The "jam" bands that have been inducted could also be called progressive, as could artists that infused world elements into modern popular music.

Why do you hate progress?

:thu:

I think this is more about them having to parcel out the alt rock bands so that they can drag out the honors rather than lump summing all the last gaspers into one big "welp, guess rock is dead now" ceremony.

First Nirvana. Then Pearl Jam. Next'll be the Pumpkins or NIN or Soundgarden...one a year for at least 6 or 7 years.

He should have gotten the award a long time ago, a really long time ago. Back in '94.
