The car was three fucking weeks old. My daughter and I are ok and we had just dropped my son off. I just had my right hand beat up a bit by the airbag.

The pictures are pretty amazing. That car did exactly what it's supposed to do — the crumple zones absorbed everything and the cabin is fully intact.

I hate that you're having to deal with all of that, but we live in amazing times. That would have been a very different wreck just a decade or two ago.

Thanks everyone!

@dmn23 - that’s what we had to explain to our daughter - the car did exactly what it was designed to do in an accident. When my wife was hit in her Hyundai five years ago (stopped on the freeway and rear ended by a truck going 67 mph) it was the same thing. The passenger cabin was perfectly intact while the rest of the car was shredded.

@VoidTerraFirma that was a CX-5 before it was scrap. I’m very happy with how the car performed in the accident.
