The white guitar phase 2

I'm out of paint.
Well, I got half a can of the green I used on the PRS but that's not enough to do any damage with.

o_O
I REALLY liked the doghair. The white is ok, but after all the work you did, I was hoping for more.

maybe.....

It was pretty cool. Maybe on another project later but I couldn't cover this mess with it.

And this was after I drilled out the mother of pearl dots and replaced with epoxy. I couldn't stand looking at a bunch of misaligned dots.

Can you redo the dog hair again, then run outa paint? :)

Just givin' ya a hard time man, it's nice guitar for sure, you do great work.

But ya, dog hair, then stop.

I like the doghair, too, guys. It just wasn't gonna work here. Too many mistakes I couldn't hide with it. Maybe next time if there is a next time.
Not sure if that's in the cards any time soon, though.
Bottom line on the guitar is this:
It plays really nicely after some additional setup work but, as much as it pains me to say it, I like the sound of my PRS more.
This one has a much more refined clean tone and has that "piano" quality, especially on the neck pickup. It lacks that raw edge the SE has, though. The PRS has this "thunk" to it on the neck pickup and that really grimy Chess Records tone on the bridge that I dig so much.
I'm gonna keep tweaking on it some...I think some lower value pots might help but this guitar is a little too "nice" sounding. For some reason it reminds me more of a strat than anything else in the tone department.

Among my many neuroses is one where I latch onto a "favorite" thing and all of a sudden nothing else matters. That applies to about everything in my life; not just guitars.
Since I've been playing that PRS exclusively for months now, I've really gotten close to it and I can make it do just exactly what I want it to do and now everything else kinda falls short.
I'll keep working with it but as things stand now, the SE is likely going to remain #1 for me.

Man, this thing sounds killer through Ash's H&K Marshall clone. The 300k pots and new bridge really made a difference. This thing has become a blues machine. Through his amp, it sounds like a 335 into a Marshall. Good tones. The Phat Cats are good pickups. It's not a P90, however, as some talk about it. It's close in sound to a P90 but has a more strat-like top end. But those big mids are still there. It sounds nice. Overdrive is not quite as gritty as a P90. Again, that strat-like top end at work I guess.

We've been tweaking shit all night and got it set up real nice now. It's still settling in and retuned are still frequent, though. Hope it gets stable soon. But the tuners, bridge, neck, nut and bridge all will take time to get where they want to be under pressure.

We have the 2x10 redneck cab plugged into the Champ, too. Cranked open in a wooly overdrive, it'll almost keep up with the drums. Clean, though, no way. But the guitar sounds good that way. Raunchy as hell.
