Newsflash! Soccerball International Championship thread?

Poor old Geordie's array...
No one started one yet?

I must say this doesn't exactly have classic, great or even good written all over it imo (only 1 group looks like it'll be exciting) but hey, it's the World Cup, it's a good excuse to go to the pub.

Saudis weren't exactly impressive today, fer sure.

Also, about 2 weeks from England having a collective meltdown again. As usual.
At least our guys didn't qualify. Again. :embarrassed:

And as usual, my money's on the Germans.

I did a predictor thing on the BBC website and came up with a Germany v Brazil final - can't see past that to be honest but it's a pretty boring thought.

Makes sense. Strongest Brazilian team in quite a while I'd say. And you can never rule out the Germans.

Even the typical German fans just aren't feeling it this year. So strange that I'm hearing Almost nothing about the world cup this year.

I'm rooting for Panama or Iceland as my underdog picks.

The draw Russia received is suspect, to say the least. I don't remember when I've seen a weaker group than group A in the current competition. That said, I will be pulling for the CONCACAF teams (save Mexico) and Iceland during this competition. I also expect another star will be added to the DFB jerseys after this tournament.

Think Senegal could be a little surprise. Denmark as well if Christian Eriksen is in proper form.

Watched a bit of Russia hammering SA earlier. As expected, the commentators mentioned England and 1966 every 5 minutes

Think that was the first World Cup I can remember watching in full. I believe the Swede who reffed that one is still a bit of a legend.

One of the classic cases that formed the basis of the use of VAR (video Assistant Referees) at the World Cup. We've been using them in the US (MLS) for a year now, and the results aren't 100% perfect, but overall pretty good.

I've lost count of the amount of sweeps I'm in but off the top of my head I have:

Switzerland :/ in work
Mexico :/ in the pub's normal one
A surprise one I won't find out until the semi's!!! in the pubs really fucking stupid expensive one
Morocco in another one I don't even remember where it's from
and one of two more that weren't even worth remembered

I might as well have taken the dough these amount to and set it on fire :embarrassed:

Big fan of VAR myself, anything that can help the refs out is good imo. Question is how well it's implemented....there were some horrible games in the FA cup last season but I'm sure they will have practiced properly for it for the World Cup.

Switzerland and Mexico? That's taking the pish. :embarrassed:

At least I know I want them to do well...

The semi-final reveal one (when I'll be about 6,000 miles away) is total bullshit, a local bowling club is going one stupider and not opening the envelopes until half time during the final!!!

That's not going to end in tears and fisticuffs :embarrassed:
