You sure about that ? I mean a box of cereal is 15 dollars, oatmeal about 11… a package of ground beef…….44 dollars and 8 bucks for regular non fancy pants milk…oh yeah a bag of Kingsford. Charcoal is 55 dollars
I knew Alaska was expensive, but that's outrageous. Have to take up hunting and fishing and live off the land to supplement groceries. A few big salmon and some caribou/moose/elk will stock a freezer.

can you imagine doing a BBQ of hamberders....55 dollars for charcoal +45 for berders= 16 for buns+9 dollars for ketchup and 9 dollars for mustard=134 dollars....then if you want some chips and beer you gotta spend another 50, so like 184 bucks for a berder BBQ
IDK but the guy doing the video I believe he said he does some kind of Construction work or something however I'm guessing YT still pays him the same ( which apparently is pretty good from the life mnost of these YT's seem to live) anyway he bought the single mom groceries at the end and the total was 660 dollars for two carts.
I’ve been to Barrow a few times. Not a lot going on. Poverty stricken. Muddy. Totally fucked if the sea level rises much and/or permafrost continues to melt.
Major problems with alcoholism and probably other substance abuse. I never confirmed but was told residents have to or are encouraged to “check” their alcohol at the police station and ration it out to themselves.
Two of helicopter pilots I worked with (both vets) told me they would rather be in combat than in Barrow because it was so boring.
It’s also the northernmost point of the US.
I didn’t have much opportunity to meet many locals so my impressions are obviously skewed.
