Newsflash! So don't procrastinate. Go to the dentist.

I hate going to the dentist. Years of orthodontia, and also the annoying family dentist who was a nice guy but had bad breath and wanted to talk to me all the time when he had his hands in my mouth made me hate it. My later dentists were not any better.

So I procrastinated a couple years recently. AND, ended up with the beginnings of periodontal disease. I guess it looks early enough that hopefully it can get all cleaned out and then maintained, with a whole lot of cleanings and etc. But, not fun. I have some other inflammatory issues too and hopefully getting this crap cleaned up can help that too.

So, don't procrastinate.

Bummer. I go regularly and can’t stand it. The scraping and poking during a cleaning is torture to me. Oddly, I fell asleep the last time I had a crown done. The dentist was impressed.

Mojo. Get that shit taken care of, you’ll feel much better after it’s done.

Mojo.

I gave up on dentists when one hygienist was soo aggressive with the cleaning that I saw smoke rising up from my mouth.

I’m sure it wasn’t smoke, but the tooth she was working on was warm enough to be uncomfortable.

I’ve since found a great dentist, actually two. They are husband and wife....and they hired my daughter to run the office. So, I kinda have to go and I have to get good checkups.

The last 2 times I went to the dentist for a cleaning, the next day, I broke a tooth. They used some kind of pressure washer thing at that office and I guess my weak teeth couldn't take it.

I went every 6 months up till about 2000, then I didin't go until 2010. At that time I started going again because a tooth cap I had from when i was a kid (due to a medicine I took which disolored and ate away at the tooth) chipped. I had an emergency situation so i looked in the phonebook, called the first place that took emergencys and i went. it was one of those chains in a shopping center. They did a fne job on the cap and then I started in with two apointments of "deep cleaning" )i.e expensive)...thern it was every 3 months. I had been using an electric brush the whole time. Long story short i quit going to them in probably 2014 so about 4 years. they kept increasing the basic cleaning bill.

So I didn't go again from like 2014 until 2016 october. I started going again at this time because I was etting senitivity to hot and cold on a molar. I found the best ever dentist, a private practice dentist, small stand alone building in a old school medical clinic area (basically a 1950's medical clinic thingy which is like a group of a few triplex buildings). The best part is it's literally about a 7 minute walk from my house. I still go every three months and i did eventually have to get two fillings. BUT.....evry time i go I am showing improvement, they were pretty much shocked how much i improved the last time...across the board all the [pocket numbers dropped and now I have most in the 2-3 range with a couple molars double that...all the bleeding stopped.

What I believe to be the reason is brushing technique, product and diet.....Brushing technique and product..... I dumped thew electric about a year ago because i got tired of paying the prices for the brushheads (i had a super fancypants Soniccare, one of the high end ones) inretrospect the electric made me lazy. I expected it to to magic, all the work (nort that my technique was every good anyway but it went to shit). Now i use a brand called POH https://www.buypoh.com/toothbrushes.html they also make great floss. Another great floss is ecco dent https://www.eco-dent.com/gentlefloss.html BTW all these products I will mention are either available online or in your local natural food store. Toothpastes I use a few because it keeps it fun and interesting and I actually look forward to brushing. the cost is worth it because each visit to the dentist is about 82 dollars, every three months (i don't have insurance) and fillings are like 125)... finally flossing. I floss at least twice a day and shoot for three and I floss even the farthest back molars. I also waterpick occasionally and the brand I have is called redibreze which i bought on amazon about 5 years ago, it hooks directly to the sink and therefore water pressure can be whatever you like. I do tongue scrape twice a day as well, not sure if it's just hokey pokey new age stuff but i started doing that before the last visit which was the vist where i had leaps and bounds in improvement.

So toothpaste i pretty much went natural full on earth mama/hippy in regards to toothpaste a few years ago at which time i stopped buying any with flouride...you don't need that shit. The natural ones remineralize (that's what they claim and I tend to think I'm proof they work) and use natural ingrediants for anti bacterial and stuff...things like Neem and Myrrh . I can't tolerate the major brands anymore...sickly sweet and artificial they are. Uncle Harrys is a wifely availiable one, a litlle salty and they are super hot though so takes adjustment. the best one is spearminbt (smells like doublemint gum) and Anise (Licorice) https://www.uncleharrys.com
Theraneem ( i get the toothpowder) and I believe this is the one that completly turned around the gum bleeding https://organixsouth.com/theraneem.html Dale aubrey is really good (first found it at Whole foods http://www.daleaudrey.com frau fowler is a good change up in a toothpowder https://fraufowler.com when i use this I don't rinse as is suggested https://fraufowler.com. I'm always on the search for new ones but I do think these all are what has helped.

Diet, cut out the sugar and artificial shit as much as possible.

sorry for the long post but I';m pretty stoked on oral health nowadays, an obsessive really. I was driven by cost at first I really want to get back to 6 month visits and I refuse to go for any deep cleaning (cost toot much) so i am inspired by cost but also they say oral health is really important so there's that too *spits after flossing*

TL/DR .....ok rant over :embarrassed:

I go every six months. The insurance pays for almost all of it, so it's silly not too.

My wife on the other hand... :annoyed:

I was really good about cleanings until this year. I'm way overdue now, but I got TMJ in late May and I just could not open my mouth wide without pain. The TMJ is close to under control now so I need to get in for another cleaning soon. And find a new dentist. I went to one right by where I work, but our office moved and it's not remotely convenient any more.

Fuck a dentist in their meathead face.
I'm saving to get them all pulled and fresh new choppers installed.
"Let me know if you feel anything "
*screaming repeatedly *
"Nothing? Good. I'll keep going then"

Thanks. That is the kind of story I needed. I have already been working on some general wellness with regard to diet, removing sugars, artificial anything, refined anything, etc., in a way that supports reducing inflammation. Kinda coincidentally, as we did this Whole Life Challenge thing that had that as part of the diet challenge. But also because we knew we wanted to move in that direction. I have a sonic care and water pick. I was not using the water pick, and was not flossing. I hate flossing. I have a small mouth opening, and it is hard to get in there. But the Sonicare did remove placque like stuff I would get on the back of my lower front teeth and keep it off, and they say my hygiene above the gum line has been excellent. So, probably will not dump that. Just add more stuff such as the water pick quite a lot, and trying to train myself to floss, or find some sort of pick type alternative for that. Using the water pick regularly helped before I am sure, as it helped slow down and reverse some soreness and bleeding I had. Will look into the natural toothpastes. I used to like the Arm and Hammer baking soda kind but I think there is some reason I should not use that. Salt or something. Will look into the hippy stuff. If it helps, the extra cost is worth it.

This particular dentist and his staff seems quite good, but is EXPENSIVE! I may get a second opinion, or look for other options. We have good dental insurance so a lot will be covered, but would like to spread the coverage out a bit. He blew through nearly 2k worth of coverage with my first emergent care. I get new coverage in a couple weeks, and have another tooth that needs to be addressed then. And I get cleaning coverage too (will be verifying levels) so I can get some help with that. Looks like deep cleaning, then regular cleanings thereafter. But then again, will look at alternatives available after getting the crisis care handled. If it (cleanings, upkeep) is covered by the coverage I am paying for, I may as well use it I suppose. And do the other stuff I can. I bet I can get some improvement with regard to the pockets also.
