One of my students had an Epiphone 339 that had been decapitated by his dog a few months ago...he bought a replacement an then a screaming deal came up on the Gibson version so he bought that too...I got to try both instruments out tonight in his lesson.
The main differences are that the neck on the Gibson just FEELS better...like more time was taken with it..the Epi is kind of a baseball bat. The other is that the pickups in the Epiphone sound like there is a pillow in front of the guitar...no midrange to be found. The Gibson just sounds more balanced although I thought the bridge pickup was a little weak.
