RIP, Leonard Cohen

I didn't need to read this..

No words I would say could compare to his words so, no words to follow...

Heard this news a little while ago.

My little heart broke a little; I grew up with his music.

His final album was a self-written obit. Kinda like Bowie's, but far more explicitly so.

But even after that, and even after Remnick's profile piece in the New Yorker a few weeks ago, this is still somehow shocking.

He's a criminally underrated legend. Very glad I got to see him a few times on his final tour.

Brilliant lyricist and songwriter with a great gravelly bass voice. Sometimes victim of overproduction on his albums, which lead to his songs sometimes working better as covers. But his best recorded stuff is very much worth checking out.

From the RecordingFest we did here a few years ago.

Huge fan. Saw him on his North American comeback tour... 2009/2010? Still a benchmark show. I'll miss his humor, his lyrics, and even the dated synth sounds. I've always thought that Leonard Cohen should be the voice of god and Tom Waits the voice of the devil, because to me they're two sides of the same coin.

RIP Leonard. Thanks so much. :(

That's true of some of his stuff, but a lot of it does work with heavy production. Because of his voice, his songwriting, just has that theatrical cabaret style.
