RIP Gene Hackman :(

A true artist who could steal any scene with his authentic portrayals.

Although it's premature, I suspect carbon monoxide as a potential cause since their dog was also a victim.

Yeah, just read the news. That's awful.

Weirdly our Taxi Driver talk got me thinking of The French Connection yesterday, and that car chase, you know. For some reason I really dig that 1970s kind of ugly magical realism, or perhaps brutal unrealism, however you want to put it.

Have you ever seen The Seven-Ups (1973), starring Roy Schneider? That's another gritty NYC film with a fantastic, set-piece car chase.

This is a bad turn. :frown:

The Academy Award-winning actor was found on the floor in the mud room, according to the search warrant. It appeared he fell suddenly, and he and his wife "showed obvious signs of death," the document said.

Arakawa was found lying on her side on the floor in a bathroom, with a space heater near her body, according to the search warrant.

Her body showed signs of decomposition, the document said. There was mummification to her hands and feet, the document said.

On the counter near Arakawa was an opened prescription bottle, with pills scattered, according to the search warrant.

A German shepherd was found dead about 10 to 15 feet from Arakawa, the document said.

But two other dogs were found alive. One healthy dog was near Arakawa and the other was located outside, according to the search warrant.

The Santa Fe City Fire Department found no signs of a possible carbon monoxide leak or poisoning, the document said. If there was carbon monoxide at the scene, it could have vented out of the home through the open front door before responders arrived.

A maintenance worker who initially responded to the home found the front door open, according to the search warrant affidavit. But there were no signs of forced entry and no signs items were taken or rummaged through, the document said.

I’ve enjoyed Hackman’s work. Apparently, his death was premature at 94. RIP.

His wife died much too young at 64. RIP.

That poor German Shepherd. RIP.

She died of hantavirus, he died of cardiovascular disease with alzheimer’s as a contributing factor, and the dog was in a crate and may have starved. He may have been alone in the house for days after she died and not realized that she was dead.

I wonder why Betsy Arakawa did not seek medical treatment, if she felt sick from Hantavirus? Maybe, she thought it was just a cold.

You would think Betsy would have had a caregiver come in daily to help take care of Gene. I guess she figured she had it handled.

No matter how you slice it, 95 is a good run for Gene. And, 65 is too young to die for Betsy.

R.I.P.

Holy crap, that's grim. :frown:

Two dogs that were not crated had outdoor access and survived.
Seems she was dead for some time and hackman was far enough along with Alzheimer's that he may not have known or was able to feed himself. Very grim.
