RIP Garth Hudson

I love the story of him telling his parents he was hired by the band to give them music lessons so he wouldn’t be “wasting” his formal music education going on tour with a rock band and he continued to show up for the lessons even though the rest of the members didn’t.

I always liked his intro to Chest Fever

NEVER played the same way twice.
I'm partial to the album version, but he had free reign and took it to explore whatever the heck he wanted going into Chest Fever. So, "The Genetic Method" had many variations on sounds (Garth having fun with new or different keyboards, organs, etc.) and feel.
Loved his playing with the Call as well. As underrated as they come.

I went on a deep dive a few years ago seeking out all of his "session" work. Even if the project was a dud, his playing was unmistakably him and consistently great. I should have taken notes on all the records he guested on.

I would be curious to see those notes
