RG570 Rats Nest

I posted awhile back about the RG570 I bought from Reverb. In fairly good shape for the era (1990) and I was not looking for a pure vintage collectible, but a player. Well, last week I started to notice some shorting in the first selected position followed shortly by issues with the jack. Opened the plate covering the barrel jack noting the hot wire had broken. No problem, I thought, an easy fix. As I was waiting for the old solder iron to warm up, I opened the main control cavity and:
:eyeomfg:
OMG what a jerry-rigged half assed mess....Someone at some point had attempted to "rewire"? work on this ? I am certainly still learning to perfect my soldering skills but this was a rats nest of spliced in wire extension, in some places massive globs of solder. BTW, when I say spliced in... what I mean are bare wires twisted together.

I should have taken pictures, but I was not in my right mind as I tried to sort out desoldering and repairing before quickly deciding to gut and redo.

So, I was able to find an era appropriate pots, switch, barrel jack ( from 91 instead of 90) on Reverb which is on the way. And Even though I don't really have any issues with the original H1 H2 pickups, and because this is a player and not a museum piece... It is time for make-over :dude::banana::cheers:.

DiMarzio Tone Zone (with Blue bobbins) in bridge/Air Norton (with blue bobbins) in neck
original S1 single coil in middle position with new blue cover
new blue knobs and switch tip

Kinda going for this vibe, from a recent guitar on Reverb

Looks like a blues machine.

Seriously though, I dig it. Any photos of the rats nest? We could all use a laugh.

I used to have a MIJ RG 770 w/ the direct mount pups and the lo-pro edge bridge (by far the best locking term system I ever used). Mine was jewel blue, which this may also be, but mine looked less in your face blue in person.

It was an excellent guitar, but my tastes changed and I used it as a trade in for a more traditional Am Std Strat that I still have and modded.

Anyway, this should be a kick ass player once you get it all sorted.

Man, I wish I would have thought about it in the moment, but I was too consumed by WTF, and what am I going to do... Went forward with gutting
