R.I.P Dickey Betts

Possibly one of most overshadowed and underrated musicians of his era (which was decades).

Duane seemed to get the spotlight because to that point there weren't a lot of slide virtuosos. And to be clear, Duane was AWESOME. Dickey, however, was equally awesome, he just played guitar in the more conventional manner. The Allmans don't sound as good as they do without Dickey's songs, singing, guitar & vocal harmonies, AND his solos. An excellent player, melodic as hell. Only got to see him once, but he and the Allmans brought all the fire.

Dam, that hurts. Growing up the Allman's were my (and everyone eles's) band. At least until Greg narc'd and then ran off to Hollywood for the likes of Cher. Dicky was great and wrote great hits for the radio. RIP

He was in a crappy situation twice over--being forever in the shadow of a gone-too-soon counterpart, and being the guy who writes the radio hits for an otherwise-hip band. Every single twin guitar part in the world ranks behind the entire Allman-Betts ouvre.

I've heard the radio hits. What album would be a good first? At The Filmore East?

Eat a Peach is the best. Get the deluxe version cuz it’s got added live stuff.

Blue Sky might be my favorite ABB song
