Stealing Your Riffs
My example of a song with lame lyrics which I hate is “Loving You” by Minnie Riperton (1974).
At 11 years old, my little transistor radio was my prized possession. When I first heard that song being played on the radio (Number 1 Hit April 1975), I felt betrayed. The song is insipid.
I still hate it. Yet, I almost feel bad for my disdain, now that I know it started out as a lullaby for Minnie’s baby, Maya Rudolph.
I will admit that Riperton had an amazing voice. The 70’s were chocked full of insipid pop songs, along with some great pop and rock.
Lovin' you is easy 'cause you're beautiful
Makin' love with you is all I wanna do
Lovin' you is more than just a dream come true
And everything that I do is out of lovin' you
La-la la-la-la
La-la la-la-la
La-la la-la-la la-la la la la
Doo'n doo'n doo-doo, ah...
No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old
And we will live each day in springtime
'Cause lovin' you has made my life so beautiful
And every day of my life is filled with lovin' you
Lovin' you, I see your soul come shinin' through
And every time that we, ooh, I'm more in love with you
La-la la-la-la
La-la la-la-la
La-la la-la-la la-la la la la
Doo'n doo'n doo-doo, ah...
No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old
And we will live each day in springtime
'Cause lovin' you is easy 'cause you're beautiful
And every day of my life is filled with lovin' you
Lovin' you, I see your soul come shinin' through
And every time that we, ooh, I'm more in love with you
La-la la-la-la
La-la la-la-la
La-la la-la-la la-la la la la
Doo'n doo'n doo-doo, ah...
Lov ooh, la-la la-la la la la la la
Doo'n doo'n doo-doo, ah...
