So my brother, the PhD of the family, sent me a text “hey… have you ever been scammed by someone on ebay? Someone from Poland just bought something of mine using Buy it Now”. I told him to call me right away. It turns out that he put up a painting from his collection for $3,900 and someone bought it using Buy It Now. The person is in Poland and has zero positive feedbacks.

My brother asked me if UPS was a good source to use for shipping stuff to Europe. I immediately stopped him and asked him if he put anything in the auction about US bidders only, no bidding unless the buyer has more than a certain amount of positive transactions, etc. He had no idea what I was talking about. I had to educate him on it.

The worst part was when he said, “Well, I’m covered by ebay and Paypal right? If I ship the item and the buyer turns out to be fake… I’m covered right?” I ended up asking him how many items he’s sold on ebay. He said that this was the first one. He never uses ebay and doesn't know what kind of scammers are out there.

I hope he can clear it up with ebay without affecting his feedback negatively.

If he doesnt use ebay anyway and wants out of the deal, why not just bail and risk the bad feedback? Plus, if the buyer pays for the painting and for the shipping, does it matter? Unless you are saying the shipping is really high and he isnt being compensate enough.

Yeah, I don't get the problem either. Who ships ebay stuff out before they get paid? That's like paying a hooker before sex and saying I'll meet you at the seedy motel in ten minutes, baby.
